Analyst Structured Finance – Job Description
General Purpose: Stout’s Structured Finance team utilizes our deep industry experience in residential, consumer, and commercial lending and securitization, as well as financial technology and structured credit investments, to perform independent third-party valuations for periodic NAV calculations, capital markets advisory, platform and transaction due diligence, and sourcing. Our services cover the entire lending cycle from origination to disposition. We serve both large and boutique hedge funds, residential mortgage loan originators and services, specialty finance firms, Fintech lenders and financial industry regulators.
Our coverage spans whole loans (residential mortgages, unsecured consumer loans, commercial real estate loans, merchant cash advances, and specialty finance loans), Agency MBS (Spec pools, IOs, CRTs), Non-Agency RMBS (Non-QM, NPL/RPL, HELOC, SFR, Timeshares, Reverse Mortgages), ABS (Aircraft, Containers, Solar), CMBS, CLOs, credit facilities, warehouse lines, private securitizations, and servicing rights.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in all aspects of Structured Finance practice including execution of ongoing valuation and advisory work, cashflow modeling, onboarding new clients and investments, creating pitchbooks, idea generation for new initiatives, fixed income credit market research.
Execute ongoing valuation projects, receive monthly investment performance updates from clients, determine month-over-month changes and trends in asset performance, update valuation assumptions using relevant indices and trade color, write narrative valuation reports, present valuation for internal review.
Model specialty finance asset cashflows and bespoke waterfall structures; capturing unique payment mechanisms of underlying assets, deal structure, triggers, covenants, etc.
Analyze large amounts of data to assess trends, project probability of default, loss severities, and prepayment rates; conduct back testing and calibrate assumptions on an ongoing basis.
Track new issuance and trading volumes/spreads, analyze trade color and comparable transactions to determine market yields.
Read and summarize large volumes of deal documents, securitization prospectuses, monthly remittance reports, industry research, rating agency pre-sale reports.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in finance or similar field.
Minimum of two years of experience in finance with an emphasis in complex problem solving, data analytics, or related competencies.
Genuine interest in understanding fixed income markets and analytics. Strong quantitative and verbal/written skills.
Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel with ability to both review and create sophisticated models, knowledge of Bloomberg fixed income analytics, familiarity with Intex cash flow modeling.
Programming experience in languages such as R, VBA, Python.
Understanding of the valuation methodologies used for these assets (primarily discounted cash flow modeling).
Excellent multi-tasking, planning and organization skills, along with strong attention to detail.
Ability to comprehend the drivers of valuation for complicated financial instruments and to communicate technical, financial, and modeling concepts in a manner that is easily understandable to clients and colleagues.
For individuals assigned to work in New York City, Stout is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The range for this role takes into account several factors including but not limited to prior work and industry experience, education level, and unique skills. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000 to $110,000. This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
