We’re looking for an enthusiastic IT Consultant I who provides technical expertise, training, infrastructure support, and consulting to all DSS users primarily in the DSS Browning Road office as Tier 2 level support.

Also, serves as backup support as needed in DSS county and regional offices.
Types of support include wide area network functions, local area network functions, office automation and personal computer hardware and software, telecommunications, mission critical application support, data backup, recovery, and troubleshooting.

The IT Consultant I is responsible for all DSS automated applications.
Assignment includes management of all aspects of the local area networks and provisions of support to SCDSS Browning Road Office.

Provides day to day maintenance for DSS IT equipment and assist user community with IT issues.
Arranges and oversees or performs equipment and software installation.
.
Provides training to users on network, personal computing, and local system functions, to include data backups, downloads, reports development.
Assists IT Consultant II with all aspects of DSS IT equipment inventory recording and control.
.
Serve as backup to regional technical staff for DSS regions.
Participates in evaluations of equipment and software packages and development of recommendations on technical solutions that meet the needs of users and the technical environment.

Assists in the creation and deployment of computer images, applications and necessary updates through the System Center Configuration Manager.
Conducts post-installation studies and evaluations for the regions.
.
Under the guidelines established for the statewide network, establishes local standards and operating procedures, including those for reporting and resolving problems and for implementing solutions and changes.
Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duty or services as directed.

All South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) Employees are expected to Adopt, Implement, and Promote the Published Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles, While Employed by the Agency.
A Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years experience in office automation systems, data communications system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing, or processing of information in a data processing environment.

Employee should possess extensive knowledge of personal computer, testing, debugging, maintenance techniques and practices.
Employee must understand and be able to implement micro processing systems, distributed systems, local area networks and their application to the agency’s information technology plan.

Employee should have the ability to maintain and manage equipment inventory.
