Purpose of Position:
Has responsibility for all tax matters of the Company including tax compliance and planning. This is a managerial position within the Tax Department and consults on financial accounting matters relating to taxes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the Company’s income, sales, and property tax compliance and financial reporting for income taxes
Prepare and review U.S. Federal & State income tax filings from beginning to end (i.e. tax planning, data collection, work-paper preparation and issue analysis, tax estimates and extensions, return preparation, return filing, tax payments, and audit defense as necessary)
Oversee the preparation of the ASC 740 Financial Reporting for Income Taxes (Provision) on a quarterly and annual basis, including: calculating the effective tax rate, calculating the tax provision and DTAs/DTLs, evaluating the appropriateness of valuation allowances, along with forecasting and creating the provision journal entries
Coordinate tax compliance projects with outside tax preparers, advisors, and reviewers as needed to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of tax compliance obligations
Conduct research and planning according to current tax laws and works with the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting on advising senior management and other Company personnel on the tax impact of current and proposed company activities and transactions
Identify ways to minimize the organization’s tax liability each year in accordance with current tax laws
Respond to correspondence from taxing authorities regarding all tax issues and handle all income tax, sales/use tax, property tax, and unclaimed property audits
Hire, train, supervise and retain competent tax staff
Stay abreast of US Internal Revenue Code and State Tax Regulation changes and procedures
Requirements
Qualifications:
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong analytical, project management, and prioritization skills
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
Demonstrate proficient knowledge of computer-related skills and accounting systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to work 100% in the office
Education/Experience:
Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation or related field preferred
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in tax required
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CPA License preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Hire, train, supervise the tax staff
