The Role: Director, Sponsor Finance

Grade: 12 (for internal use only)
Team: The S&P Global Sponsor Finance Commercial Team is responsible for optimizing relationships and commercial outcomes with our Private Equity and corporate private issuer clients. We are a close-knit and collaborative team, brainstorming solutions that help our clients overcome their complex business challenges. The team is competitive, fun, energetic, and intellectually curious.
The Role: The Sponsor Finance Director is responsible for managing and developing relationships with our Private Equity clients and their portfolio companies. This role will also be responsible for engagement with both cyber risk and sustainable finance objectives in the sector.
Responsibilities:
Manage and develop commercial aspects of S&P Ratings’ relationships with a set of Private Equity clients and Private issuers.
Develop market-based insights to position Cyber Risk & ESG products into Private Equity firms and Private companies while providing high touch client service to communicate S&P’s value proposition.
Identify opportunities for S&P products in the Private Credit space.
Implement creative sales strategies through navigating complex organizations understanding of private market drivers, client culture, identifying key decision makers, and influencing decision-making process.
Diagnose and understand customer objections and identify ways to address and overcome.
Gain access to new stakeholders and develop “trusted advisor” relationships.
Utilize communication and negotiation skills to gain user acceptance.
Track customer & industry trends to better position our services, reporting findings to product and commercial leadership.
Utilize and maintain Salesforce data to monitor pipeline and opportunity status for goal management.
Coach and mentor junior team members

A proven track record in delivering outstanding relationship management and sales. This should be supported by recognized achievements and continuous high performance.
Strong presentation and communication skills, specifically in listening to clients while articulating ideas and complex information in a clear and structured manner.
Willingness to approach every problem as an entrepreneur with grit, creativity, and persistence
Proven record of maintaining strong relationships, addressing client needs, and elevating their overall customer experience.
Strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent networking skills to meet new clients, obtain market information necessary to anticipate customer needs and interpret the trends that are evolving in the markets S&P serves.
Ability to work comfortably across organizational boundaries, and quickly gain the credibility and respect of executives
An ability to analyze client information quickly, respond logically, and use data to influence client purchase decisions.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Sales experience to related client set (Private Equity / Private Markets)
Knowledge of finance and accounting principles
Knowledge of capital markets and rating agency experience
8+ years of sales or capital markets experience
Proficiency in MS Office, Excel and Salesforce
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference for CFA or MBA (Finance, Economics, Sustainability, or related field preferred)
Experience and passion for ESG & sustainability

Compensation/Benefits Information:
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $88,400 to $175,600. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
