Service One Credit Union Looking for Accounts Payable Specialist (Part-time 25-29 hours per week) at Bowling Green, Kentucky Full Time

This position is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and finance duties as directed by Credit Union policies and procedures. Administers the Credit Union’s accounts payable process. Assists with general ledger accounting including recording journal entries, performing reconciliations, reviewing variances, and preparing financial reports. Provides general accounting and finance support to Management and other departments as needed. Supports and promotes the Credit Union’s Vision, Mission and Core Values.

Primary Responsibilities

• Administers the Credit Union’s accounts payable process. Logs all new invoices, sends invoices to appropriate associates for approval, and follows up on invoices not returned timely. Assigns expenditures to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
• Pays approved invoices prior to their due date. Archives accounts payable vouchers and other supporting documents.
• Prepares and mails Form 1099-MISC to vendors and submits reports to IRS by established deadlines.
• Reconciles assigned suspense accounts and promptly follows up on outstanding items.
• Ensures member trial balance reconciles to the general ledger and promptly resolves posting errors.
• Ensures that cash drawer report reconciles to the general ledger and that cash suspense accounts have no ending balance.
• Prepares various variance analyses as assigned or when needed to understand a problem.
• Reports to Management as necessary regarding accounting entries, reports, and analysis.
• Prepares journal entries and balances work in other accounting areas as assigned.
• Prints and mails batch checks daily.
• Reports credit life and disability payments to CUNA Mutual Group.
• Monitors member tax withholdings and makes timely deposits to the IRS for amounts due.
• Performs such other duties as may be required from time to time for the overall management and operation of the Credit Union.

Additional Responsibilities

• Archives Credit Union records as assigned.
• Assists with month-end closing procedures as assigned.
• Assists with external reporting as assigned.

Educational/Experience Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and some additional post-secondary technical course work.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar or related role.
• Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education requirement

Qualifications

• Requires a proficient working knowledge of accrual accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Requires a good working knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures.
• Proficiency in current version of Microsoft Office Suite and the use of Credit Union or other computer-based accounting systems.
• Exhibits strong accuracy and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates strong analytical and technical skills.
