The role of the Director of Investments at SOA entails leading the scouting and vetting of ocean impact startup investments, conducting due diligence, and proposing investment deals to the SOA Investment Committee. The role also involves developing and nurturing relationships with other ocean impact investors to expand SOA’s presence within the ecosystem. Additionally, the Director of Investments will help to manage key internal relationships with SOA sponsors and investors through the production of quarterly reports on investment performance. This role will collaborate closely with the Chief Impact and Investments Officer to refine SOA’s ocean impact investment thesis and strategy. The position also involves analyzing industries relevant to ocean impact investments, as well as supporting the accounting and operations related to deploying impact investments. Reporting to the Chief Impact & Investments Officer with oversight from the CEO.

Responsibilities:

• Lead scouting and vetting of new prospective ocean impact startup investments that support SOA’s mission
• Propose investment deals to the Investment Committee and facilitate committee meetings
• Lead SOA’s investment process by performing investment due diligence, including business, financial, and impact diligence, and communicate findings through investment memos, diligence decks, and verbal presentations
• Develop and foster relationships with other ocean impact investors and expand SOA’s presence in the ocean investment ecosystem
• Support SOA’s investment teams in managing relationships with SOA’s investors and sponsors, by producing quarterly reports on investment performance
• Work closely with the Chief Impact and Investments Officer to further develop SOA’s ocean impact investment thesis
• Support fundraising efforts by sourcing new prospective investors and sponsors
• Prepare analysis of relevant to ocean impact investments to guide investment strategy, including thesis creation, market maps, industry research
• Facilitate network building through proactive interactions with promising entrepreneurs
• Support accounting and operations related to SOA and Seabird Ventures investments
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree or relevant certifications preferred
• 5-10 years experience in venture capital, private equity, or impact investing
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities
• Knowledge of the ocean sector and ocean-related environmental challenges.
• A track record of building and managing investor relationships
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
• Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
