POSITION TITLE: Assistant Manager
REPORTS TO: Store Director

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Manages evening store operations to achieve projected store sales, departmental presentation and execution, labor goals and productivity expectations.
COMPANY WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Contributes toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.
2. Ensures proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste.
3. Follows all company, store, and department policies and procedures.
4. Complies with federal and state regulations.
5. Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Demonstrates a love of food and passion for people to include incredible Customer Service and performance excellence through example and education of team members.
2. Institutes “best practice” leadership and management principles and ensures adherence to organizational procedures, policies, and systems.
3. Institutionalizes best practices for evening operation to control and minimize shrink.
4. Instills a positive, motivating work environment that results in a collaborative front end team.
5. Ensures store conditions are maintained and prepares store for morning operation with expected results.
6. Responds to customer inquiries and complaints in a positive, resolution-oriented manner.
7. Ensures appropriate staffing, training, scheduling, safety, sanitation, inventory control, equipment maintenance and shrink control to achieve expected results.

8. Communicates with Store Director and other members of the management team concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and planning.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Indirectly supervises employees working the evening hours by providing work direction.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school education, and three to five years supervisory experience in a retail store environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires frequent walking and standing, as well as frequent lifting/carrying of 10 – 25 lbs. Occasional turning, kneeling, reaching, squatting, and stooping/bending are required. This position requires occasional lifting/carrying of up to 55 lbs., pushing/pulling of up to 200 lbs., and occasional operation of equipment in the customer service and pricing departments. Examples of equipment used are register, scanner, telephone, computer, flatbed, and shopping cart. This position also requires judgment, decision-making, verbal interaction, memorization, math, reading, and writing skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an environment where there is exposure to wet surfaces, and warm or cool temperatures as a result of store entrance doors. Noise level is consistent with a retail store environment.
