DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Roberta’s House is housed in a 15 Million Dollar state-of-the-art three-story building in Baltimore and has a well-appointed suite of offices in Prince Geroge’s County, MD. We are looking for a motivated management and accountant professional who serves as the organization’s Director of Finance (DOF). He/she is responsible for delivering leadership, oversight, and guidance of Roberta’s House’s accounting and compliance systems (RH). The grant management responsibilities are a vital component of the position. For example, the duties include but are not limited to financial projections, developing budgets, post award grant accounting, preparing budget modification, and ensuring compliance with funding source guidelines. In addition, the DOF prepares and present financial reports to the RH Board, and submit financial and other related federal, state and local grant regulatory reports.
Responsibilities of reporting RH’s capital fund, donor revenues, executed vendor contracts, and all other financial obligations are under his/her direct purview. To be successful in this role, the DOF must work across program/departmental lines, have in-depth knowledge of risk management principles, and create forecasting models. In addition, the DOF assists the RH with maintaining an effective financial and audit team. Ultimately, the DOF will ensure we manage resources strategically that maximizes funding and financial resources in support of our mission.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
· Provide leadership and day-to-day oversight of the RH financial systems, grant accounting, and accounting department staff
· Employ accounting principles and the framework that is compliant with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Technical Bulletins, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
· Forecast projections and proactively prepare data-driven reports reflecting financial metrics, trends, cash positions, revenues, and expenditures
· Serve as RH representative/ oversee RH financial reporting with the audit firm
· Prepare balance sheets, audit worksheets, schedules, detailed reports, and supporting documentation to be relied upon at RH’s internal and board meetings, grant and agency audits, annual agency reports, in addition to program inspections concerning federal, state, local, grantors, or other related agencies
· Prepare, review monthly grant budgets/amendments, and assist with grant budget applications
· Oversee preparation of financial loan applications
· Review financial donor reports and related documentation
· Monitor cash flow management across all streams of income and prepare monthly account reconciliations
· Consult with RH executives and board members of economic status and submit financial projections for multi-year strategic budgets or related data
. Respond timely to inquiries from RH executives, financial committee or board, grantors, and business partners
· Prepare and timely file federal and state income tax returns and other various regulatory documents
. Analyze grantor revenue and expenditure reports and makes recommendations to ensure compliance with budgeted projections, modifications, and grant provisions
. Prepare and maintain documentation that supports federal, state, and other related agencies’ audit inspections of financial transactions, including but not limited to compliance, billing, funds drawdown, correspondence, and other associated activities
· Compile and independently analyze relevant data as well as prepare written responses to questions from internal/external stakeholders regarding financial statements/reports including but not limited to contract or grant expenditures, and operational conditions
. Ensure the RH Financial Management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented, updated, and adhered to across programs and departments
. Assist with the development of accounting and reporting procedures for the RH’s Behavioral Health Center
. Examine and independently verify accounting, statistical, or operational records to access reliability and effectiveness in connection with organizational risk management protocols
· Oversee financial audits using a risk-based audit approach, including assessment of controls
. Oversee all audits, review, and associated compilation tasks, including preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, as amended
. Serve as the RH representatives for all financial matters and take the independent initiative to go the extra mile to address internal/external stakeholders requests
..Supervise accounting staff in accounts receivable/payable and the use of QuickBooks and Penelope, as required
. Participate in scheduled and called Zoom meetings, as required
. Possess effective public speaking, strong critical thinking and writing skills
. Serve on ad hoc committees
. Work some weekends and evenings, as necessary
. Pass background investigation and possess private vechicle
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Professional experience Minimum of six years of supervisory experience in accounting in business, nonprofit, or public accounting
