Riverbend Industries Inc. (RBI) is a private family-owned portfolio holding company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The portfolio is primarily compromised of several small, independently operated, previously family-run businesses in the light manufacturing and distribution sectors. The portfolio plans to grow both organically and through additional acquisitions into the foreseeable future.

The RBI Home Office is comprised of several senior executives and their functional teams supporting our subsidiary operating businesses. The Home Office serves to provide general leadership and guidance to the local subsidiary leadership teams while ensuring operational, financial, and cultural alignment with portfolio-wide standards and expectations.

Position Summary

The Manager of Financial Planning, Analysis & Business Systems serves as the primary systems and financial data & analysis resource for the Home Office Finance Team. This person will be responsible for the consolidation, analysis, and reporting of financial and operational data from the portfolio’s operating businesses through robust partnerships with the business unit finance/accounting teams. Leveraging Planful and assorted enterprise resources planning (ERP) tools, this person will uncover meaningful insights into operating business performance and serve as a subject matter expert on managing, interpreting, and using data to generate best-in-class outcomes across the portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead by example with a Safety First mindset in every task
• Coordinate the entry of, verify the accuracy of, and consolidate key financials to include profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements along with operational data from business units using Planful
• Be a mentor and technical trainer for operating business controllers and the organization at large on business systems to include Planful, Power BI, and other data analysis tools
• Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly financial data packs and other meaningful presentations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors to drive strategic business decisions across the portfolio
• Serve the CFO’s go-to person in identifying and assessing key performance indicators for the operating businesses
• Develop standardized reporting to use for monthly management reviews for the local business unit leadership teams to compare financial performance against planned objectives on a timely basis
• Support the formulation of assorted forecasts (e.g., earnings, cash flow), annual budgets, and strategic plans as appropriate
• Analyze monthly financial performance and key performance indicators and collaborate with business units to derive explanations of key variances/exceptions
• Conduct relevant benchmarking of the operating businesses against each other and external peers to understand general performance relative to our industry and segment peers
• Co-lead the quarterly and annual financial reporting process with the Corporate Controller
• Ensure financial reports are compliant and contain appropriate disclosures
• Proactively research technical accounting guidance and communicate any changes
• Liaison with external auditors on a regular basis to ensure timely reporting and accounting compliance

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Minimum

• Bachelor of Arts/Science in Economics, Finance, or a substantially similar field
• 3-5 years in progressively more advanced finance roles
• 3-5 years working with financial consolidation and analytic platforms

Preferred

• Prior experience supporting a multi-P&L light/durable goods manufacturing portfolio organization
• 5+ years leading the financial analysis/reporting function of a diverse, multi-divisional/multi-P&L organization
• Meaningful experience at a best-in-class/Fortune 500 organization

Skills & Characteristics

• Comfort with configuring, managing, and leveraging complex business systems like Power BI, Data Warehouse, Planful, etc. and using tools like SQL to drive analytical methods
• Robust familiarity with digital ERPs such as or similar to Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Epicor, ComSense, etc.
• Strong analytical and business skills
• Expertly understand highly complex financial data and concisely provide accurate findings
• Advanced user in Microsoft Office applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams
• Strong abilities using XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and other spreadsheet functionality to manipulate, analyze, and take action on financial data

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel domestically approximately 15% of time
• Ability to remain seated for extended periods in an office environment
• Ability to safely lift and move objects up to twenty-five (25) lbs. over short distances
• Willing and able to provide proof of a complete course of inoculation of an FDA-approved or EUA-allowable vaccine for COVID-19 or willing and able to participate in an interactive dialogue in the case of a request for an allowable medical or religious exemption
