The Director of Commercial Finance is responsible for leading and mentoring direct reports with overall responsibility for the following: creation of and reporting on lines of business; documentation and presentation of proposed enterprise-wide projects; ad hoc analysis for strategic decision support; operational cost analyses and business unit analytical support; and recommending strategies for improvement.
On a day-to-day basis in this customer-facing role, the Director of Commercial Finance will work with employees ranging from the CEO to entry-level analysts including an offshore team and as such must show strong oral and written communication skills as well as a strong sense of leadership. The Director of Commercial Finance will be key in collaborating with various groups throughout the organization, measuring results, and fostering productive external customer relationships. Additionally, this professional will work with the commercial solutions organization to support various financial activities, modeling, and tracking. To be successful in this role you will have strong analytical, planning, forecasting, and financial modeling skills, and exhibit good business judgment.
Responsibilities:
This is a customer-facing role, which includes both internal and external customers.
Drive the financial planning of the company by analyzing its performance and risks
Retain constant awareness of the company’s financial position and act proactively to prevent problems
Set targets for and supervise all accounting and finance direct reports
Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis by analyzing historic trends and forecasts of future customer revenue, cost, and operating metrics
Deliver succinct presentations and conduct supporting analysis to make forecasts and report to finance and operations senior leadership as well as customers
Reporting of and tracking invoicing and various commercial items
Creating models to assess the impact of contractual updates and agreements on customer and R1 financial results
Streamlining current database modeling, reporting, and update processes to assist in scaling for future growth and broaden support coverage
Train, manage, and collaborate with the offshore team through the completion of recurring processes and new initiatives to drive scalability and increased support coverage; produce related monthly/weekly reports for internal and customer use
Maintain communication and collaborate with Controllership, Billing, Treasury, Legal/Contract Administration, and Operations teams to set and align expectations
Assess opportunities to improve value creation for customers and for R1
Requirements:
Proven experience as director of finance or a similar role
In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices
Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
Advanced MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills and proficiency in the use of financial management software (e.g. SAP)
An analytical mind with a strategic ability and desire to learn
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Project management skills, working cross-functionally across the organization and drive to work independently, remain organized, and execute tasks effectively
Ability to manage multiple workstreams at the same time
Highly detail-oriented with strong personal accountability to find creative solutions to challenging problems
Ability to assess current processes and recommend solutions for improvement, transition to offshore ownership, and automation
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities across all organizational levels
BSc/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field MSc/MA is a plus
CPA or other relevant qualification is a plus
