Job Summary:
A successful candidate for this position will need to be strategically minded, demonstrate proven leadership in previous roles in finance and administration; have a proven track record in team management, and be a partner both internally and externally. Candidate will have knowledge and experience working with non-profit organizations in a career and/or volunteer aspect. Candidate will have general knowledge of auditing process in the role of accounting. Candidate will have a passion for making a difference in the lives of families during their time of need. This position will supervise three full-time positions: Accountant, HR Manager and Billing & Family Benefits Coordinator.
What You Will be Doing:
Strategy and Management

• With the Executive Director, create strategies for the future of financial, people, and administrative management of RMHC-Denver in coordination with the organization’s Strategic Plan as determined by the Board of Directors.
• Works in partnership with the Leadership Team and the Board of Directors on new Chapter opportunities for programmatic enhancement, operational strength, and revenue stream continuity and growth, with an eye towards maximizing the organization’s financial position.
• Strengthens the organization’s financial position through effective financial management.
• Creates, refines, and ensures compliance with internal controls, external laws, standards, and best practices.

Financial Management

• Leads the team responsible for financial data entry, third-party billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

• Engages hands-on in the accounting system (QuickBooks online) and works with its team to ensure proper division of duties and controls.
• Streamlines and modernizes accounting systems to create effective and efficient departmental procedures; keeps up to date on changes in accounting best practices.
• Identifies areas of opportunities and risk within financial performance and structure.
• Manages cashflow to maximize investible funds.
• Responsible for overseeing all financial reporting requirements as recommended and required by GAAP, the FASB, nonprofit best practice, IRS, Colorado Secretary of State, and other related and governmental agencies.
• Oversees the Billing & Family Benefits Coordinator’s work in Medicaid and third-party billing; ensures best practices are followed; ensures this reimbursement continues as a strong funding source.
• Oversees the work of the Accountant in the completion of month end closings and reconciliations; completes month end reconciliations of investment accounts.
• Prepares and analyzes monthly and annual financial statements, cashflow, forecast analysis, and other requested reports for the Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors in a timely and accurate manner.
• Develops and sustains positive banking, investment advisor(s), and external fund manager(s) relationships.
• Ensures compliance with Investment Policy including asset allocations and spending policies.
• Works with the Finance Committee Chair/Treasurer and Audit Committee Chair, plans the agenda and helps lead the Finance Committee and Audit Committee to accomplish their strategic goals.
• Works with Development Team to ensure regular reconciliation between QuickBooks online and Raisers Edge NXT.
• Works with the Development Director to prepare grant and proposal budgets and complete required reporting.
• Works with the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Chairs/members of Board Committees requiring the expenditure or raising of funds, creates the annual organizational operating budget, including allocations across departments and programs.
• Leads annual audit and 990 preparation and coordinates the collection and completion of documents requested by auditors from within and from other departments.
• Works collaboratively with entire RMHC-Denver team to increase their knowledge, proficiency, and comfort with financial management and accounting best practices.

Human Resources/Payroll

• Supervises the HR Manager and ensures that HR services are provided effectively, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, benefits, compensation, training & development, and regulatory compliance.
• Oversees the work of the HR Manager in completing the bi-weekly payroll process, payroll system administration, and completes monthly reconciliation of accompanying reports.
• Oversees an annual review of salary/compensation study, benefits, and budgeting associated with the outcomes and strategic staffing plan.

IT and Administration

• Ensures well-functioning office support and equipment needs are met.
• In coordination with contract IT company, creates and implements a plan for proactive IT management of office systems, that includes setting a budget and proactive plan for repair/maintenance, replacement, and upgrades.
• Completes organizational insurance annual review with insurance broker.

Other Responsibilities

• Serves as a willing ambassador who represents RMHC-Denver at external events to further the mission of the organization.
• Actively participates at internal fundraising and programmatic events and serves as a partner to the Development Team and Programs Team.

What You Will Need:
Education, Experience and Physical Requirements:

• B.A./B.S. in Accounting or Finance preferred
• At least 7 years of experience in accounting, finance, or financial management required
• Working knowledge with experience in a small to medium nonprofit setting
• At least 3-5 years of experience in senior leadership preferred
• Experience in office administration and HR preferred
• Experience in clinical billing is a plus – particularly in Medicaid
• Knowledgeable of accounting regulations and accounting best practices
• Experience in QuickBooks online is preferred

• Ability to perform physical requirements of an office-based position, including sitting, standing, lifting, and operating office equipment
• Ability to work onsite in-office majority of the time.
• Ability to travel between both Aurora and Denver Ronald McDonald Houses and to the occasional out of state conference or meeting.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other times as necessary.
