ABOUT THE POSITION
Do you have a head for finance and a nonprofit heart? Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center seeks an experienced Director of Finance and Operations to drive financial planning and analysis, oversee human resources, and lead the Site Maintenance team. This position focuses on increasing operational efficiency and optimizing Oxbow’s financial position while ensuring mission impact. Working with the Executive team, a successful Director of Finance and Operations will develop and execute an ambitious plan to drive earned revenue for each of Oxbow’s program areas, including agricultural production, the native plant nursery, education, and events and public engagement.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Finance and Operations will provide strategic leadership and direction for business and financial operations, ensuring productivity, efficiency, and smooth workflow. They will identify and implement best practices to optimize operations and monitor the progress of projects and programs within those areas.
Financial Planning and Analysis Leadership
Oversee the creation of Oxbow’s annual budget in collaboration with the Executive team to set revenue and net income targets over a two-to-ten-year time horizon.
Develop a two to five year rolling forecast that includes risk and variance analysis both at the program level and organization-wide scope.
Assist Executive Team and Board of Directors in maintaining the Capital Expense Budget.
Support Management staff and Board of Directors in building understanding and capacity around forecasting and financial analysis, including reviewing financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Work with the Executive Team to establish key performance indicators to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Work closely with the Executive Team to optimize the financial position of each program, which may include identifying and developing new opportunities for earned revenue.
Ensure the organization’s adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and all relevant financial laws and guidelines, maintaining effective internal controls and accounting standards and procedures.
Lead Oxbow’s Annual Audit and preparation of Form 990.
Business Operations Leadership
Manage the Finance and Site Teams, including staff supervision and professional development.
Oversee Oxbow’s relationships with external service providers supporting Human Resources, IT, and Audit.
Lead all HR initiatives, including compensation structure, benefits, training, performance management, and employee relations.
Oversee the prioritization and timing of Capital Improvement Projects, including oversight of contractors, and strategic planning for physical infrastructure according to budget.
Improve systems and tools to optimize work efficiency across Oxbow, including both digital (IT) and physical (Site) infrastructure.
Working with Oxbow’s Site Manager and the Safety Committee, ensure implementation of proper safety measures for all employees and visitors to Oxbow throughout the year.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of relevant professional directorial experience (e.g., finance leadership, business development, entrepreneurial non-profit management, or related).
Demonstrated track-record of building revenue for mission-based organizations with experience in budget management and fiscal oversight for teams/departments.
Knowledge of GAAP, deep commitment to upholding accounting principles, laws, and best practices for non-profits.
Knowledge of efficient organization-wide information architecture practices is a plus.
Strong management skills, balanced strategic and tactical focus, with a demonstrated ability to deliver program results while maximizing individual development and well-being.
Excellence in influence and leadership – a team player who focuses on building a healthy and productive culture, is skilled at building trust and strong relationships, who models desired behaviors and nurtures them in others.

Fluent working in Microsoft suite (Office 365, Teams, Outlook, OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

COMPENSATION
This is a regular, full-time position, with benefits that include 100% employer paid life insurance, healthcare, dental, and vision plans, retirement contribution match, and competitive paid time off. Additional benefit information is available upon request. The salary range is $105,000 to $110,000, depending on qualifications.
