OSTEAL THERAPEUTICS
Osteal Therapeutics, Inc. (Osteal) is a late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a novel pipeline of combination product therapeutics for musculoskeletal infections and their consequences. Our lead investigational candidate, VT-X7 was granted Breakthrough Therapy, Orphan Disease, FastTrack and Qualified Infectious Disease Product designations by the US Food and Drug Administration and is rapidly completing its clinical trial program for the treatment of Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) with launch expected in 2025. A robust pipeline of additional indications and therapeutic candidates will lead to rapid and sustained growth for the foreseeable future.
POSITION SUMMARY
Osteal Therapeutics seeks a passionate and strategic Vice President of Finance and Administration to lead all aspects of our financial operations and administrative functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, this key leadership role will be vital in driving the company’s mission to improve outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal infections.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Financial Leadership & Strategy:
o Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and implement a long-term financial strategy aligned with our mission and growth objectives.
o Lead the annual budget and forecasting process, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities for clinical development and commercialization.
o Collaborate with business unit leaders to develop and implement pricing strategies for our investigational drug therapies.
o Oversee the treasury management function, including cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and investment activities to ensure financial stability.
Financial Reporting & Controls:
o Supervise the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements according to GAAP, supporting investor confidence.
o Manage the internal audit function and ensure adherence to strong internal controls, mitigating financial risks.
o Oversee the external audit process, maintaining positive relationships with auditors.
o Lead the accounting operations team, ensuring efficient and accurate financial recordkeeping for clinical trials and future commercialization.
o Manage all aspects of corporate tax planning, preparation, and filing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Strategic Partnership & Fundraising Support:
o Partner with the CEO and executive team to provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making related to clinical development, regulatory approvals, and potential commercialization.
o Support the CEO in fundraising efforts by preparing financial models, presentations, and due diligence materials.
o Lead the management of virtual data rooms (VDRs) used during fundraising processes, ensuring secure and efficient document sharing with potential investors.
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, investors, and external financial partners.
Operational Excellence:
o Select and oversee the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to streamline business processes and improve data management.
o Evaluate office space needs based on company growth and strategic direction.
o Oversee information technology (IT) infrastructure and systems development to support our growing needs.
o Manage risk mitigation strategies through comprehensive insurance coverage for clinical trials and company operations.
o Select properties for office space, considering factors like location, size, amenities, and cost.
o Negotiate lease agreements to secure favorable terms for the company.
o Oversee facilities operations at our headquarters, ensuring a productive and efficient work environment.
o Foster a culture of efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Finance and Administration department.
QUALIFICATIONS
o Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA, CPA or CFA preferred).
o Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior finance leadership role.
o Experience within a life sciences, medical device or pharmaceutical company preferred.
o Proven track record of success in financial planning, analysis, and reporting for commercial-stage companies.
o Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles. SEC reporting experience a plus.
o Experience in treasury management, budgeting, and forecasting in a dynamic environment.
o Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across departments.
o Ability to think strategically and translate financial data into actionable insights to support growth objectives.
o Proficient in financial modeling and analysis tools (e.g., Excel).
o Knowledge of relevant regulations in the life sciences industry a plus.
o Experience with corporate tax planning and compliance in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is highly desirable.
o Understanding of virtual data rooms (VDRs) and experience managing them in a fundraising context is a plus.
o Experience in evaluating, selecting and implementing ERP systems is a plus.
