Omaha Public Power District Looking for Accounting Analyst II at Omaha, NE Full Time

The Accounting Analyst II supports the department’s responsibility of providing accurate and timely billing, revenue reporting and accounts receivable management activities by supporting the service order completion process; the billing and customer records administration for OPPD’s service offerings; and the review of the customer account balances and aged debt. Incumbents in this position support the revenue reporting requirement, including daily and monthly reporting, and balancing to OPPD’s general ledger. Incumbents in the position support identifying and documenting requirements for information technology applications; performing the testing and implementation of these applications; and performing analysis and reporting of customer and operations information and maintenance activities relating to the ITRON Meter Reading Systems and Technologies.

• Responsible for providing accurate and timely billing, revenue reporting and accounts receivable activities.
• Perform in-depth review of customer accounts which includes billing history, meter information, payment history, field activities and other related transactions to provide customers with transaction detail to support the customer’s account balance. Escalate identified account anomalies to appropriate internal resources as needed. Must understand complex billing for large customers.
• Reconcile CC&B (Customer Care & Billing) to the General Ledger accounts, research discrepancies, returned items and appropriate journal entries to Corporate Accounting.
• Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of billing exceptions. Identify and resolve potential billing issues and address billing concerns from both internal and external customers.
• Review delinquent electric service accounts to determine accuracy of the aging of Accounts Receivable and causes for fluctuations in delinquent balances.
• Responsible for all field order processing activities, electric service billing functions, processing account information and correcting accounts as necessary, providing notification to customers of disconnect notices and processing maintenance billing enhancement programs (i.e., special billings). Investigate and recommend actions to resolve system or account issues.
• Responsible for performing operational activities relating to meter reading systems hardware and software; uploading the daily electronic meter reading file from FCS (Field Collection Systems) system to CC&B for supporting the billing cycle activities; and reviewing system reports including initiating service investigation orders (where appropriate) to resolve metering issues.
• Support month-end balancing of the subsidiary ledger to the general ledger, appropriate journal entries and the monthly rate and revenue report to corporate accounting.
• Identify and escalate, to direct management, improvement opportunities related to work practices, procedures, documentation, tools, or equipment.

• Adhere to all defined budget or expense management policies and procedures. Report any potential variance in an appropriate time frame for corrective actions to be taken.

• Prepare reports or input to existing reports with accurate timely data.
• Ensure adherence to all assigned Cross Functional Working Relationship (CFWR).
• Work collaboratively with peers to identify, recommend and implement process improvements.
• Understand and comply with all OPPD policies, and applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.
• Complete all corporate and Business Unit specific compliance training. Adhere to all internal procedures and controls as required.
• Report any suspicious customer and/or account activity.
• Maintain knowledge of all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Identify any issues related to adhering to any of the documentation.
• Escalate any violations you observe to the appropriate management role.
• Stop work if safety related issues exist to people, equipment, and plant/dept.
• Support the planning and design of internal Business Unit, divisional, and departmental specific communications.
• Promptly review, adopt and reinforce/champion Corporate & Business Unit specific communications and directives.
• Research topics, and develop draft content as assigned by management. Analyze and ensure accuracy or information.
• Actively listen and participate in all communication meetings and provide feedback as required.
• Effectively share communications with co-workers.
• Utilize the most effective medium for the information you are communicating.

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate degree in accounting, business administration or management information systems with at least two (2) year’s relevant experience, or at least four (4) year’s relevant experience in accounts receivable, financial accounting, billing or collections activities required.
• Strong technical, mathematical, analytical skills as well as the ability to support several tasks simultaneously and respond to problems as they arise.
• Strong personal computer skills including all aspects of Microsoft Office including the ability to design and maintain Excel spreadsheets and perform ad-hoc query and analysis of customer data using query tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of utility billing and customer service systems.
• Valid Driver’s License
