Essential Job Functions:
As with all members of the College of Law staff, the Director of Finance and Administration serves the College of Law clients broadly defined to include faculty, staff, students, and other persons who have business with the College of Law. Therefore, the Director of Finance and Administration will not be limited by this job description in an effort to assist our clients, but will perform whatever tasks are assigned by supervisor(s) and that are reasonably necessary to achieve the service function. To this end, all College of Law staff will be readily available, visible, and accessible to visitors. Every effort will be made to assess and answer customer inquiries. If unable to answer an inquiry, the staff members will make every attempt to assist the client to contact the appropriate person to respond to the client’s inquiry.
1. Forecast and recommend annual tuition rates, enrollment targets and revenue outcomes. Prepare the annual operating, capital expenditure, student organization and competition budgets and justifications. Monitor ongoing budget compliance. Correct, balance and close all College of Law accounts at year-end.
2. Serve as principal approver of all financial transactions, journal entries, and budget transfers.
3. Prepare complex, detailed reports and analyses for internal and external constituencies. Compile and report financial data annually to the American Bar Association (ABA) for accreditation purposes, and presents the financial overview during the ABA site inspections (every 7 years). Compile and report the Society of American Law Teachers (SALT) annual law professor salary survey and the US News and World Report financial survey. Compile and report the annual Internal Audit Self-Assessment to ensure the College of Law is fulfilling its’ fiduciary duties to the University. Focal point for distributing survey results and rankings and performing first-level analysis of data for executive review and action.
4. Assist with the selection and awarding of scholarship and endowment gifts, and processing of all fellowships.
5. Prepare and revise a Procedural Handbook for Student Organizations to be distributed annually. Respond to all student inquiries regarding funding, travel, events and NSU policies and procedures. In conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students, monitor and counsel students on proper use of university funds.
6. Provide guidelines for faculty Professional Development Accounts (PDA). Approve and monitor faculty expenditures from their PDA to insure compliance with the guidelines, university travel and reimbursement policies, and spending within the limits of the PDA allocation set by the Dean.
7. Approve and serve as the authorized signer for College of Law Emergency Loans to all qualified students. Set policies, procedures and guidelines for the issuing of loans consistent with University policy. Oversee notification to the Bursar’s Office for the repayment of the loans, balancing the bank statements, loan reimbursement deposits and monthly reporting to General Accounting.
8. Provide training, guidance and direction to all College of Law personnel on correct policies and procedures; instruct department managers on best practices, process improvements, and budget management; manage the personnel process within the College of Law; respond to all compliance issues involving personnel and financial transactions.
9. Collaborate with the central university functions/services including Budget, Financial Operations, Controller’s Office, Treasury Operations, Accounting, Fixed Assets, Internal Audit, Business Services, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Sponsored Programs, Legal Affairs, Human Resources, Payroll, Office of Innovation and Information Technology, Public Safety and the Travel Office.
10. Provide overall leadership and oversight of College of Law facility, including capital improvements, space planning, daily operations and custodial services to deliver an appropriate education and work environment.
11. Oversee all personnel administration for faculty, staff, adjunct professors and student employees, including job descriptions, recruitment, onboarding, annual performance evaluations, promotions, corrective action, medical and other leaves of absences, voluntary and involuntary separations, and merit review process.
12. Represent the College of Law on various university administrative committees and task forces.
13. Oversee account security for access to university systems including Banner, Ariba, Paytrax, Netsearch and Imaging Systems.
14. Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

1. Advanced systems skills in financial databases and reporting, including extensive experience in spreadsheet modeling, forecasting, financial analyses, budget development and cost control.
2. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop and/or distill complex business, financial operational or strategic analysis into easily understandable information.
3. Requires exceptional political sensitivity and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across and outside the organization at all levels.

5. Advanced knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must have proficiency in data base management and the use of spreadsheets.

7. Demonstrated ability to complete projects within established time frames.
8. Innovatively use technology, analytics, and research to develop financial models and quarterly projections.

3. Previous experience in executive decision making, managing and organizing.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Previous experience in an academic setting.
2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related discipline.
