Job Summary

This class oversees accounting functions and coordinates the daily business operations of the NWC Foundation, including preparing/monitoring budgets, developing custom reports, maintaining billing and accounts payable, facilitating investment management activity, and designing and administering financial and database practices and procedures. Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Processes, posts, and monitors financial information posted in the automated financial system to ensure accuracy and completeness of information, which includes: journal entries, adjusting entries, budget entries, cash flow of bank accounts, receivables, payables, bank reconciliations, banking, closing processes, and/or other related information. Prepares monthly financial statements for the Foundation’s Board the Directors and Executive Director. Collaborates with auditors regarding annual audit of financial statements and IRS reporting.

Oversees the alumni/donor database, which includes: reviewing coding of donations to accounts; preparing applicable reports; reviewing payment activities; performing queries for financial information, solicitations, and cultivation activities; monitoring pledges; maintaining donor records; tracking donor contact activities; coordinating lost alumni research; and, performing other related activities.

Prepares and monitors financial and/or system information, which includes: managing 350+ endowments/restricted funds accounts, creating reports, responding to information requests, instructing users, and providing other applicable information.

Performs a variety of activities in support of departmental operations, which includes: tracking fundraising/performance goals, and campaign activity; preparing data pulls for solicitation work, email communication, donor cultivation and stewardship activities; and, performing other related activities.

Collaborates with Executive Director and professional advisors regarding management of $50+ million in Foundation assets, which includes adherence to Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and action necessary to balance asset allocation with economic conditions; facilitates the Foundation’s Finance/Investment Committee meetings; and drafts, recommends, implements, and administers financial policies and procedures to ensure accurate and auditable financial records and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Facilitates private donor payouts with applicable internal department(s)

Required Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or business-related field, and at least three years of experience in accounting, one year of experience in database management or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Training & Experience

  • Preferences for:
  • · Expertise in fund accounting;
  • · Experience with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge and/or Raiser’s Edge;
  • · Understanding of regulations associated with charitable donations and endowment management;
  • · Investment portfolio experience;
  • · Experience working with a Board of Directors

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
