NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Assistant Accountant to perform various accounting and administrative duties associated with the Capital Replacement Program, an agreement between NEIWPCC and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) to replace certain wastewater treatment infrastructure within the City’s water supply watershed. This is a great opportunity for a junior accountant to grow their financial skillset, while supporting local environmental improvement efforts.
This role supports the Capital Replacement Program by assisting the DEP Project Manager with various administrative functions. The primary responsibility of the position is to review detailed financial reconciliations of operations and maintenance (O&M) expenditures of each wastewater treatment facility in the NYC watershed for each fiscal year, which will require the preparation of O&M documents, tracking of annual budgets, and the comparison of submitted O&M invoices with their annual reconciliation documentation. Other job responsibilities include preparing files for offsite storage, maintaining accurate documentation of files, and attending meetings with WWTF owners and operators, engineers, and lawyers, as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, and have at least one year of professional work experience in an accounting or auditing role. Ability to organize workload and perform tasks in an accurate, conclusive, responsible, and timely manner will be needed. Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn and use advanced formulas and functions (e.g., vlookup, PivotTables, subtotals) within electronic spreadsheets is preferred. The ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts, and ledgers with a high degree of numerical accuracy is required.
