Metropolitain Economic Development Association (Meda) Hiring for VP of Finance Job at Minneapolis, MN Full Time

We are looking for a dynamic VP of Finance reporting to the President/CEO. You will be part of an organization that is creating small business growth in the Twin Cities. We help small businesses grow their businesses with financing solutions.

The VP of Finance general purpose is to provide effective and efficient direct management and leadership of the organization’s daily operational functions by communicating and supporting the organization’s purpose, mission, culture, and business strategy as articulated by the President/CEO. The VP of Finance directs and oversees all facets of the Meda’s finance, accounting, business planning, budgeting, IT, contract administration, and risk management. Additionally, this position oversees financial administration, reporting and compliance for government contracts and private grants.

The VP of Finance is a strategic thought-partner working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Board Directors to develop and implement strategies across the organization to enhance mission, build capacity and develop quality programs.

Essential Functions

Strategic Financial Leadership

• With the executive leadership team and Board, support the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan with a focus on financial sustainability
• Lead, mentor, and coach a team of finance, IT, and consulting professionals
• Lead strategic financial planning and analysis effort; provide analysis and guidance to the President/CEO and Board to ensure sustainability, and mitigate risk
• Lead the financial evaluation and due diligence of potential growth opportunities, bringing in the President/CEO and Board members as necessary
• Offer recommendation to the President/CEO and Board regarding investment of surplus funds.
• Work directly with the VP CPO to negotiate all employee benefits and contracts.
• Chair the 403 b Advisory Committee and Board Finance Committee.

Finance and Development

• Co-direct the development and implementation of short- and long-term fiscal planning and budgets, with a focus on the overall financial success of the organization
• In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer, review compliance on major grants for the regional and national offices and provide oversight of expenses, predicting needs, and ensuring fiscal responsibility
• Prepare budgets and financial reports for large grants in partnership with the Advancement team and Grants Writer
• Oversee financing strategies and activities, including banking relationships, Program Related Investments, and other operational and client lending funding sources.

Financial Oversight

• Oversee the preparation and delivery of financial reports and projections to the President/CEO, Board, staff, investors, and auditors
• Oversee the preparation of department budgets and department/region expense reports
• Analyze and interpret financial results and trends
• Oversee cash forecasting and management, oversee annual budgeting and audit processes
• Ensure financial controls, policies, and procedures are in place and updated
• Ensure effective management of relationships with financial institutions, investment advisors and other vendors
• Serve as a key liaison to the Board for all financial matters and participate in monthly Board and Finance Committee meetings

Administration and Operations

• Ensure that Meda’s processes and infrastructure enable the top performance of Meda strategies
• Manage the vision and accountability for the annual performance of the organization’s finance team, promoting best practices that enable Meda to deliver on its mission
• Oversee Finance, IT, and Consulting
• Propose strategic solutions for improvement of IT Service and Knowledge
• Lead, develop, and empower the team to foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and support
• Oversee Meda’s risk management and compliance responsibilities, implementing policies and systems that ensure full compliance with national, state, and local requirements
• Negotiate all insurance policies- Property & Casualty; and Director’s & Offers Liability to conform to industry requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; MBA is preferred.
• Seven to 10 years of non-profit financial management experience overseeing a team
• Experience in organization development and a track record of successfully facilitating organizational change.
• Experience working with many different constituencies or stakeholders ranging from the Board of Directors and policy volunteers to budget managers.
• Success in managing multiple areas of business related to general finance and accounting; regulatory compliance; nonprofit laws and regulations, business taxes, basic accounting processes (AP/AR); IT strategies; HR guidelines; and overall operations implementation.
• Skilled at financial models and analysis
• Record of financial stewardship and leadership in a nonprofit organization
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex things simply.
• High proficiency in client management as well as project management.
• Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with system selection, new system implementation and project management.
• Possess an abiding commitment to diversity, inclusion, access, and equity.
• Experience leading a cross functional project or assignment.
