Commuter benefits About the role: The Property Accountant is primarily responsible for maintaining accounting records and accurate books as well as issuing financial statements for Company’s commercial portfolio. Reports to the Assistant Controller and works closely with the accounting team members and the property managers. What you’ll do: Responsible for full-cycle accounting for commercial property portfolio: manage month-end close process and preparation of monthly journal entries which may include accruals, amortization, capitalization, and adjusting entries to ensure accurate financial data reporting. Review general ledgers and prepare monthly financial statements. Analyze income and expenses, including comparisons to prior period and forecast and budget, and provide variance explanations. Assist team with month-end close process for the corporate entity including intercompany transactions and intercompany reimbursements as well as the annual 1099 reporting. Reconcile bank accounts monthly. Prepare monthly mortgage payment entries and reconcile lender statements. Read leases, abstract leases, and set up leases in Yardi. Maintain tenant leases in Yardi including move-in and move-out accounting. Calculate and prepare CAM reconciliations and CAM estimates. Assist Property Manager with the CAM reconciliation process. Review accounts receivable and ensure accuracy including processing tenant rent billing, miscellaneous bill backs or utility submeter billing, posting late fees, and generating monthly tenant statements. Assist team with the tenant receipt posting. Process and code invoices and/or review invoices for accuracy. Assist team with the weekly check run process including issuing checks to vendors and 3rd parties. Regularly review job costs to ensure costs are within the approved budgets and properly close jobs when they are complete. Prepare and reconcile monthly balance sheet account schedules. Prepare and assist team with the annual property budgets. Assist team with the year-end close and preparation of various tax schedules for the CPA. Assist team with documenting policies and procedures. Conform with and abide by all regulatory guidance and internal policies and procedures. Provide backup support for the team as needed. Special projects, duties, and ad hoc analyses as assigned by the assistant controller and the controller. Our ideal candidate: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 3 years of Commercial Property Accounting experience or related field is required Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Yardi experience preferred but not required Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including intermediate or advanced level of knowledge/experience in Excel Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Strong analytical strategic thinking and problem-solving skills Self-confident, self-motivated, self-starter, strong work ethic, flexible, results-oriented and success motivated Capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines Dynamic, organized and detail oriented Ability to quickly learn new software/technology, new concepts, and new processes and procedures Ability to work with all levels of the Company and work well as a team player Ability to identify and solve problems with limited information and recommend alternatives and areas of opportunities in process improvements.
