MEMIC’s Summer Internship Program identifies college students who want real-world experience that will allow them to gain valuable knowledge and skills within their field of study.
This is a paid internship that can also be credited towards the student’s degree. The program will last 11 weeks, beginning on June 5th and ending on August 18th. This opportunity will be full-time (37.5 hours per week).
The Finance intern will contribute toward the daily financial operating and compliance activities of the Finance department.
The individual should be able to follow previously established procedures and is expected to apply good accounting form, their work will cross-check and be free of technical error.
Throughout this internship the incumbent will obtain a broad knowledge of financial accounting, investment accounting, regulatory compliance and financial ing.
Responsibilities:
Supports Accounts payable function with accurate and timely payment processing.
Participates in finance specific projects, monthly staff meetings and ad hoc meetings.
Prepares excel and general ledger reconciliations and s for Insurance entities and real estate entities.
Supports Director, Tax & Compliance with federal income tax or premium tax return schedules and support.
Prepares assigned regulatory assessment filings in various jurisdictions and communicates with various external state or other regulatory agencies as necessary.
Assists with compliance of 1099 maintenance in Sovos system.
Assists with tracking and record keeping for abandoned property in UpExchange system.
Assists in general accounting, billing, reconciliation, dividends, deductible, reinsurance and ing functions of the Company as required for all MEMIC Group Entities.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be pursuing an Associate’s degree or above. Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or other related undergraduate degree preferred.
Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Must have a basic understanding of accounting procedures and techniques.
Must have the ability to take initiative on regular duties with supervision.
Must have the ability to work independently while demonstrating initiative and creativity.
Must have the ability to complete projects on a timely basis, identify obvious problems and bring them to the attention of their supervisor.
Must have Intermediate Excel skills.
