Position Summary: KADIMA DAY SCHOOL (Kadima) seeks a strategic financial leader for the full-time Director of Finance (DOF) position. The DOF will report to the Head of School and work directly with the senior leadership team and board to steward the organization’s finances.
Our ideal candidate is a smart, analytic problem solver and strategic thinker who can provide leadership for Kadima’s budget and financial operations, human resources and other administrative functions, and staff the Board of Directors’ Finance and Audit Committees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management
Responsible for leading the development of all financial plans, budgets, forecasts, and projections including maximizing revenue to increase the organization’s impact.
Ensure accuracy of all financial information; provide regular financial reports to the Head of School, Board, and management team.
Manage the finance department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions.
Maintain accounting policy and procedures manual to ensure appropriate levels of internal controls are in place to safeguard the assets of the organization.
Manage cash flow planning including the timely and accurate recording of revenues, contributions, and cash receipts on an accrual basis.
Supervise the finance department including overseeing the payroll process, account payable processing and prompt collection of receivables.
Complete the accrual-basis month-end close-out including bank reconciliations, month-end journal entries, year-end journal entries, general ledger review.
Maintain monthly balance sheet schedules that reconcile to the accounting system.
Issue monthly financials on an accrual-basis including budget variance analyses (in total and by cost center), a balance sheet comparative, financial statement trends, and other financial tools.
Manage the preparation of the annual budget in partnership with the management team.
Oversee the preparations for the annual financial audit and the timely and accurate filing of the school’s tax returns.
Work with development and program staff to develop grant and cost center budgets, donor reports, and the timely submission of invoices for public contracts.
Ensure compliance with all financial and contract reporting requirements for city, state and federal government agencies as well as requirements for other private restricted grants, contracts, and donations.
Serve as the primary liaison with the organization’s bank,
Review vendor contracts and relationships and advocate for cost-savings measures.
Perform various accounting, administrative and other related duties as assigned and required by the role.
Work with Accounting Manager in oversight of accounts receivable and work with parents on tuition payment plans or other special needs.
Work with Director of Admissions, Tuition Assistance Committee and Accounting Manager on Enrollment and tuition receivables.
Human Resources/Administrative:
Oversee human resources functions including insurance & benefits policies (health and retirement plans), liability insurance, and worker’s compensation insurance.
Work with Accounting Manager and Office Coordinator to carry out various administrative duties including, but not limited to, staff orientations and implementation of the Employee Handbook.
Oversee management of facilities & physical infrastructure to meet organizational needs.
Review and oversee negotiation of all leases and contracts.
Process semi-monthly payroll.
General Organizational Responsibilities:
Actively participate in organizational leadership as a member of the executive management team; participate in short-term and long-term goal setting, develop agendas and facilitate meetings as needed, and foster an environment of collaboration & teamwork.
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for Kadima and a strong commitment to its mission.
Participate in organization-wide events and activities.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Mission-driven and aligned with Kadima’s vision, mission and values.
Innovative thinker with a broad vision of the leadership role within the organization.
Flexible, resilient, self-starter with a good sense of humor.
BA, preferably in Accounting or Finance, and 5 years of financial management experience.
Have a thorough understanding of non-profit accounting and an understanding of GAAP as it relates to community-based organizations.
Collaborative, visionary leader and strategic thinker, who has strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills as well as an attention to detail.
Strong relationship building skills that allows for prioritization, negotiation, and collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Proficient in QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, and Excel.
Ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, verbal and written expression) with the ability to interact with members of the community and the board.
A strong sense of discretion and confidentiality.
Valid CA driver’s license and insurance.
Salary: $105,000-$120,000, depending on experience
Benefits: Full-time Exempt position offering eligible employees 10 days paid vacation, holidays, 403(b) plan, and health/dental/vision benefits upon successful completion of introductory period.
