The Controller reports directly to the Director of Administration and manages the financial activities of the organization, including corporate financial reporting and accounting. This role will assist in the supervision of a small team and have the following responsibilities: coordinate the consolidated monthly close and reporting, conduct income statement review and analysis, perform financial trend analysis with key performance indicators, manage centralized accounts payable and receivable functions, manage centralized general ledger functions, including periodic review of prepared account reconciliations, assist in annual operating budget preparation, complete financial planning, analysis, and forecasting, coordinate and prepare documentation required for any external audits and tax returns, and prepare financial analysis and reports as necessary.
Responsibilities
Maintain records according to generally accepted accounting principles, including general journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
Provide corporate financial support across company divisions and locations.
Create weekly and monthly financial reports for company leadership.
Develop cash forecasts based on sales projections, backlog, and investments.
Manage and coordinate day-to-day maintenance of the general accounting systems
Research and correct account discrepancies as needed.
Develop and implement high-quality review processes for journal entry processing, account reconciliations, fluctuation explanations, internal and external financial reporting, and internal controls.
Oversee and/or engage in accounts receivable collection efforts.
Ensure documentation of contractual relationships with clients and vendors.
Manage payroll processing and ensure proper posting of payroll transactions to the general ledger.
Calculate fee schedules annually and ensure proper estimation of work effort and fees on proposed projects.
Prepare all records to assist CPAs in completing annual tax returns.
Participate with leadership to improve general financial performance of the company.
Requirements
Mastery of Excel
Experience with enterprise accounting software (Deltek or Unanet preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience (AEC industry experience preferred)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity in dealing with and providing documentation to banks, insurance firms, and accounting firms
