Job description
The Accountant is responsible for accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments in various forms of checks, ACH, wire transfers and inter-company netting in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. The Accountant will process customer payments as received in various forms from lockbox, ACH, credit cards and wire transfers. The Accountant will assist the Controller with G/L reconciliations and end of month closing entries. The Accountant must have a solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable and accounts receivable principles, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Individual should be highly organized and detailed-oriented and possess the ability to effectively work both independently and in a team setting.
Key Responsibilities
Process vendor invoices via a 3-way match process including verifying invoices are properly approved prior to entry and payment.
Process and issue payments to vendors timely. Payment process may include checks, ACH, wire transfers, and inter-company netting.
Send remittance information to vendors and resolve payment inquiries.
Process payments received from customers and applying payment accurately and timely to customer invoices and credit memos.
Process and issue sales credit memos for returned product and billing errors.
Accounts Payable month end close responsibilities including processing journal entries for accruals and reconciling intercompany payments.
Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions
Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports
Recommend and implement work process improvements
Assist in other duties as assigned.
Job requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
3+ years Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
Awareness of business trends
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
Strong & Professional Communication skills
Great accuracy and attention to detail
Proficient in MS Excel – VLOOKUP, Pivot tables
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
Awareness of business trends
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
