Tax Preparers and Quality Reviewers needed for 2023 tax season in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. The Quality Reviewers serve as the technical tax expert for a tax site and is responsible for ensuring that all returns prepared meet the quality requirements of the IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The Tax Preparers provide quality tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers. Using the information provided by the client, and by asking follow up questions, completes the tax return and reviews the final return with the client. To establish and ensure the greatest degree of trust, the Tax Preparers are responsible for preparing accurate tax returns and must uphold the highest ethical standards. Tax Preparers: Successfully learn the tax preparation software to complete tax returns and prepare returns using electronic filing software. Interview the client to determine that all income is reported and all allowable deductions are claimed. Directly prepare the client’s return, based upon the information provided by the client and the client’s answers provided on the intake form. Accept no payment or other compensation of any kind from the client. Inform/refer the client to the other services offered through the VITA site. Ensure that on-site quality review is performed on the return. Have the client sign the applicable authorization documents for electronic filing. Timely review all returns for tax and technical accuracy before the returns are provided to the clients or electronically transmitted. Quality Reviewers: Manage and ensure return preparation quality at tax site Follow Community Tax Aid (CTA) and IRS site procedures. Support Site Coordinator with operational needs of the site. Help manage workflow, facilitate sign-in and intake of clients; ensure orderly and thorough screening process. Provide on-site tax expertise; answer tax volunteers’ preparation questions and assist with any tax-related issues. Ensure that each completed tax return is reviewed to ensure it is complete and accurate. Work with individual responsible for electronically filing returns to ensure procedures are followed and problems in rejected returns are corrected on a timely basis. Help manage supplies and materials from CTA and the IRS. Keep files and supplies organized; ensure necessary supplies are in place for each tax session. Help volunteers locate files, forms and supplies. College degree preferred or some college education Bilingual Spanish a plus Tax Preparer candidates should have knowledge of personal income taxes as well as tax law knowledge. Quality Reviewers should have experience preparing individual income tax returns or qualified CPA or Enrolled Agent with at least two-year’s individual income tax preparation experience for low-income taxpayers is required Must be very Customer Service oriented Tax Preparers and Quality Reviewers must complete special training and pass the IRS Volunteer tax preparer certification exam at the Advanced level.
