GLAAD operates with support from foundations, corporations, and individuals from every corner of the United States. Our highly skilled team of more than 50 staff work out of our Headquarters in New York and an office in Los Angeles and support our expanded reach through multiple chapters across the country. Over the past several years, GLAAD has achieved rapid and significant growth and currently has an annual operating budget of approximately $17 million.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Deputy President/COO and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Vice President of Finance will be responsible for the development of GLAAD’s financial management and growth strategy and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. The Vice President will oversee all financial management activities including financial planning, investments, general accounting, budgeting, systems, and controls, and will provide counsel and support to the senior leadership team and Board Finance Committee relating to all financial matters impacting the organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
Be a thought partner and advise the Deputy President/COO and other key members of the leadership team on financial matters including budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and related fiscal policy matters.
Serve as the management liaison to the board and finance/audit committee. Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters and updates on GLAAD’s performance of its strategic financial plan at select board of directors and committee meetings.
Develop financial modeling for the organization including financial goals and revenue targets which support the planned growth strategy of the organization and ensure GLAAD’s long-term financial health and stability.
Participate in ongoing strategic planning meetings and contribute financial analyses and recommendations that help support the development of GLAAD’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization. Develop the appropriate systems to track GLAAD’s adherence to its strategic financial plan.
Develop and execute plans for the migration to a new cloud-based financial platform that seamlessly and effectively aligns GLAAD’s fundraising activities and revenues with its overall financial infrastructure.
Financial & Accounting Operations
Develop and implement procedures, policies, and workstreams based on best fiscal practices to maintain a strong and reliable finance operation with the appropriate internal systems and controls to provide critical financial information to support financial goals and strategy.
Facilitate the use of key performance indicators and other organization-wide metrics and data points to inform financial decision-making.
Issue timely and complete financial statements, budget forecasts including variances as well as other management reports informing senior leadership on the organization’s financial performance.
Work with the internal auditors to prepare and review financial statements, tax documents and filings, audit schedules, and annual report of audit findings, and update the Board Finance Committee of these activities.
Oversee the finance team in implementing the day-to-day financial operations including general accounting, payroll, cash flow management, and reporting systems in accordance with GAAP standards, federal and state regulatory requirements, and other grant requirements.
Monitor investment and cash management accounts and provide support to the Board Finance Committee to maximize the return on investments in accordance with the organization’s investment policy and criteria.
Lead an inclusive annual budget planning and development process with input from key leadership and internal stakeholders.
Ensure that accounting systems and processes are continuously updated and streamlined through process improvement and automation to achieve maximum efficiencies, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting.
Improve administrative and operational accounting services including treasury management,
403(b) plan administration, grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable and purchasing.
Maintain continuous lines of communication in real-time, keeping the Deputy President/COO informed of critical financial issues.
Represent the organization with external vendors and partners in areas related to the finance function, particularly in the areas of banking and lease negotiations.
Assist tax consultant in preparing and submitting all tax documents and other regulatory reports in a timely manner to all relevant authorities.
Team Management + Organizational Collaboration
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development on all financial systems and policies.
Mentor and develop the finance team using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign performance and development goals, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results.
Work closely with GLAAD internal management team to plan and develop financial data requirements and analyses including the development of internal management reporting capabilities to support departmental operations.
Partner with leadership staff across the organization to develop a strong strategy around thoughtful leadership that ensures a positive and inclusive work environment for all employees.

Experience | Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting is required; a Master’s in Business Administration is
preferred. CPA would be an added plus.
Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior financial leadership role ideally with both in-house financial management and external audit experience gained in a high-growth nonprofit organization.
Experience either as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization. Must have demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit finance and accounting practices, and applicable regulations.
Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization.
Working knowledge of cloud-based accounting platforms and transitioning (migrating) financial management applications into the cloud.
Knowledge of/experience with Salesforce platform and financial functionality preferred.

The salary range for this leadership role is $140-165K commensurate with the candidate’s competencies and experience.
