Senior Director R&D Finance – Program Finance

The Senior Director Finance will help lead and support the financial planning and analysis efforts for the Development Organization and serve as the key finance business partner to the clinical finance team along with the three major therapeutic areas in Oncology, Virology and Inflammation. This person will be a strategic thought partner along with the Head of Program Finance in evolving Program Finance to the next level in supporting the g.Ecosystem Program Strategy Teams working closely with Program Strategy Leads and Program Managers. This ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, influencing, and proven ability and experience in working in a cross-functional team environment that will help support our development pipeline to deliver life savings medicines to patients. This individual will be leading a team and will report to the Head of R&D Program Finance.
Essential Duties & Job Functions
Serve as primary business partner working with clinical finance across the three major therapeutic areas
Serve as primary business partner for PSTs and PMs – supporting Gilead Governance process, budgeting and financial reporting
Responsible for developing and recommending financial KPIs for development projects
Lead the LE and Budget cycles for clinical development and analytics to support portfolio-level financial reporting insights
Serve as the key finance business partner to implement and roll out a capacity planning tool for program resources needed during annual and long-term planning processes
Responsible for developing and recommending financial KPIs for development projects
Proactively recommend and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our reporting and analysis
Support the consolidated monthly and quarterly close process for clinical development
Provide ad-hoc analyses and project support for the program team
Knowledge, Experience, & Skills
The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of 14 years’ experience, having held positions of increasing scope and responsibility, including at least 12 years’ experience as a senior finance leader and business partner
A BS or BA is required, and an MBA (with 12 years’ experience) or CPA is strongly preferred
In-depth proficiency in aspects of accounting and finance and knowledge of US GAAP is required
In depth knowledge of US Healthcare Systems, Business Intelligence, Planning and ERP systems is required with proficiency in Microsoft tools
Prior experience in bio-tech or pharma is strongly preferred
Experience in high-growth, multi-national organization a plus
Excellent interpersonal skills: an inquisitive mind, and the ability to work effectively with multiple functions
Ability to quickly establish credibility with diverse audiences and be perceived as a leader
Business Savvy and Financial Acumen: The candidate will possess technical knowledge on analytics, business foresight, and problem-solving skills
Results Orientation: The ideal candidate will be results-driven and must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. He/She must have the ability to drive results and possess a strong drive to meet and exceed goals and is willing to take ownership of problems and make sound decisions
Change Leadership: The candidate will be an independent self-starter and a proactive leader with a drive to strive.
