FAIRMONT Looking for Hotel General Accountant at Carolina, Puerto Rico Full Time

Fairmont El San Juan Hotel General Accountant performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with significant focus on General Ledger accounting. This position is also responsible for supporting the Manager and Assistant DOF in conducting the Month End, Fixed assets, Account reconciliations and External and Internal Audits.

What you will be doing:

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to

• Reconcile General Ledger accounts and review problematic accounts. Direct staff in follow up of accounts, to ensure proper internal control.
• Ensuring that all audit work is balanced on daily basis and completed in a timely and accurate manner
• Maintain purchase order systems, which include a listing of open PO’s for goods received but not invoiced, filing, notification of PO discrepancies, etc.
• Reconciliation of food and beverage purchases.
• Reconciliation of receiving logs with the appropriate personnel on a weekly basis.
• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
• Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Fairmont standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working.
• Comply at all times with Fairmont standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
• Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.

• Review and code the previous day’s work by analyze rebates, adjustment miscellaneous charges, promotional tickets, tips, banquet tickets and stats.
• Assist on documentation and preparation of the daily operating sales and revenue summary.
• Balance daily taxes, and archive all documents according to taxing authority requirements to ensure compliance with applicable state tax regulations
• Ensuring that daily and monthly processes are being performed as scheduled
• Assist with Month-End closing process as directed, including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliation.
• Assist with monthly house bank audits, payroll audits, and other duties as assigned
• Keep management aware of any unusual operation or financial occurrences and/or significant deviations from policies and procedures.
• Prepare and analyze complex financial reports and make judgements.
• Analyze and maintain all vendor communication and correspondence including, but not limited to, reviewing and processing invoices and disbursements, preparing various reports, monitoring critical payment lists, verifying vendor statements, etc.
• Monitor and ensure compliance of approval levels, expense reporting procedures, employee relocation disbursements, expense dictionary usage, and other policies and procedures as required.
• Provide guidance, monitor accuracy and timeliness of work produced by team members

Your experience and skills include:

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

• Prior experience in an income audit or other similar analytical role is preferred
• Strong working knowledge of SUN, Excel and Word/MS Office.
• Must be a strong Team player, highly motivated and able to work under pressure.
• Analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems with multiples variable
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Excellent organizational skills with attention of detail
• Good working knowledge of Hospitality accounting systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• College degree in finance related area is preferred
• At least two years full-service accounting experience.
• Hospitality experience preferred.
