Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse-ICU is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible.
Demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position determines competency.
The Registered Nurse – ICU provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Joint Commission Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.
Contract Shift 8-12 Week Contracts Night & Day Shifts Available Location Gulfport, MS Certification:
All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification.
RNs working in the ICU and/or Emergency Department are required to complete and maintain ACLS certification.
RNs working in the nursery are required to complete and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation certification.
RNs working with pediatric patients are required to complete and maintain PALS certification.
From the date hired, RNs have 12 months to acquire the appropriate certification.
Experience:
1-2 years of appropriate nursing practice/experience.
Physical Demands:
Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities.
Auditory acuity to hear patient verbal communication and gather data using auscultatory skills.
Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 6-7 hours per 8-hour shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
Must be able to stand for extended periods and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue.
Must have high energy level and be capable of handling high-pressure situations.
Potential exposure to communicable disease or radiation exists.
Mental Demands:
Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute and chronically ill patients.
Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress level for 10-12 hours/12 hour shift associated with care of acute patient/family, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.
