DESCRIPTION
The Director of Finance is responsible for implementing, evaluating, and maintaining the agency’s systems and processes for accounting and financial management. This key leadership position serves on the Senior Leadership Team and acts as liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management
· Direct and manage organization fiscal functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
· Manage finance team staff to ensure smooth daily financial operations.
· Review, monitor, and implement best practices for fiscal controls, fiscal policies and systems, including budgeting, cash management, forecasting, financial statements, tax reporting and records compliance. Oversee and ensure accuracy of monthly payroll and periodic payroll tax reports.
· Analyze, interpret, and communicate financial operating results to provide information and guidance to the organization’s Executive Director and Board of Directors.
· Coordinate the annual independent audit and support independent tax professionals in the preparation of annual IRS tax report and other state and federal forms as required.
· Monitor contracts to ensure timely filing of financial reports and billings.
· Prepare financial models for grant applications.
· Collaboratively create, maintain, and distribute comprehensive and timely budgets and dashboards to provide real time data on key performance indicators.
Strategic Leadership
· Serve as a strong strategic partner to the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team.
· Proactively and continuously evaluate current systems for continuous process improvement.
· Instill a sense of shared financial accountability across the organization and meet regularly with leadership to share financial information, and to teach financial accountability and revenue generating/efficiency thinking.
· Lead and participate in internal staff meetings and work groups that involve the organization’s financial accountability and performance.
· Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing finance policies and procedures.
Risk Management
· Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
· Regularly advise leadership on areas of liability and risk.
· Work with consultants and/or Board members and other volunteers to complete internal audits and risk analysis.
Administration
· Review, monitor, and implement systems that reinforce a collaborative, efficient, and supportive work environment.
· Effectively train and develop staff, using the organization’s shared values and working agreements as a standard. Onboard all new management staff regarding their financial oversight responsibilities.
· Maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, in particular strong banking relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting. CPA or MBA preferred.
· 8+ years of demonstrated experience in financial management, nonprofit preferred.
· Skilled at fund accounting and knowledgeable in all areas of nonprofit accounting principles.
· Ability to prepare and analyze financial projections.
· Comprehensive knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
· Management/Supervisory skills with the ability to onboard and lead a team to excellence.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and plan workload and projects to consistently meet deadlines.
· Competent computer skills required to perform essential functions listed above.
Preferred Qualifications:
· CPA or MBA
· Nonprofit experience

· Office environment – no specific or unusual demands
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
· Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
· Available to attend meetings, functions, and events after normal business hours on occasion.
· Occasional travel may be required.
