Leads special projects within the area and analyzes their impacts on accounting functions; performs technical accounting research on emerging business developments and transactions to determine proper implementation of GAAP/GASB accounting standards; completes complex financial reports and performs in-depth analysis on reports, GL accounts, reconciliations and transactions. Responsibilities include supporting the manager on cross-training and developing other analysts in the area, and working with other departments within Controller, Financial Services and outside of Financial Services. The successful candidate will have superb critical thinking, exhibit a discipline and drive for complex analytics, and display a passion for providing exceptional accounting and financial services to customers.
Assumes lead responsibility for complex FS special accounting projects within the area.
Performs complex accounting research and formally documents findings via preparation of White Papers on various topics.
Prepares, reviews and monitors generation mix transactions, reports and activity to ensure generation quantities and fuel costs have been properly recorded and reported to native load and wholesale.
Prepares complex accounting entries involving TCOS, STEP, CRRs, solar and wind generation, unproduced curtailments, regulatory recoveries, prepayments, source & disposal of gas & electricity, etc. and performs complex research and analysis within those areas.
Performs complex statistical/variance/trend analysis on accounts/reports, to include the Sales & Revenue Board Schedule.
Performs and/or reviews numerous account reconciliations and rollforwards, some highly complex.
Prepares and analyzes financial statements, such as the Statement of Revenues, Expenses, and Changes in Net Position, analyzes the relationships and variances therein among other financial statements.
Prepares and/or reviews numerous PBCs and X-files for the financial audit and assists with proofreading and reviewing the audited financial package.
Assists with the year-end accruals process and with the monthly close process as needed.
Prepares and delivers presentations and data to upper management and addresses and researches questions.
Reviews the impact of new GAAP and GASB accounting pronouncements as they relate to CPS Energy accounting.
Helps coach, mentor and cross-train the other analysts within the section.
Serves as an immediate back-up to the manager when needed.
Completes other complex assignments and tasks as assigned.
