Central Garden & Pet Looking for Financial Controller at Bingham Farms, MI Full Time

Central Home Brands, a business unit of Central Garden & Pet , is a Bingham Farms, Michigan based leading manufacturer and distributor of Pet Beds and Patio and Outdoor Lifestyle products to leading retailers in the US and Canada, has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Controller, based in our corporate headquarters.

Reporting to the CFO of Central Home Brands, the Financial Controller would be a key part of the leadership team and would also work closely with Pet segment and Corporate finance. Strong interest in driving continuous improvement within the accounting function will be a key success factor in this role. Deep organizational skills and a talent for effective people management will be fundamental to this position. The Controller would oversee a team of up to 6 employees.

Measures Of Success

• Full responsibility for overseeing month-end close in accordance with GAAP
• Ability to streamline processes to: (1) meet timeliness while providing accuracy and completeness in monthly close and reporting and (2) generate analytics that unlock insights and support better forecasting and decision-making.
• Address all audit requests, both internal and external
• Full responsibility for SOX compliance under guidance of corporate SOX team; full transparency
• Hands-on analysis – ability to build tools to research/track changes/trends; understand business drivers
• Develop and manage a high performing team that proactively drives continuous improvement and works with a collaborative mentality

Ideal Candidate Attributes

• 5+ years in related experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance / accounting required, CPA strongly preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in GAAP and inventory cost accounting
• SAP experience a plus
• Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to work closely with a senior management team
• Strong written & verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in effective development of professional staff
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Team works a hybrid schedule, part of the time from their home office and part of the time from our office in Bingham Farms
