Chief Financial Officer – Overview

** Must be in LA and have experience in physician practices and buy-side M&A (acquisition due diligence, deal negotiation and all aspects post-deal integration). This role is both very hands-on as well as strategic in nature.***

The Center for Rheumatology, a premier rheumatology services organization that is admired and respected throughout Southern California, is searching for their first CFO. This is a chance to be a key influencer in this private-equity backed organization during a time of high growth and change, positioning the Center for successful expansion serving an underserved and prevalent healthcare need.

The CFO will partner with the CEO and investors to drive and execute the financial strategy and the strategic goals of the Center. The CFO will be responsible for accounting and finance functions of the business across two locations. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will implement best practices, build infrastructure to facilitate sustained growth, manage a team, and work closely with VSS Capital Partners.

Job Description – Chief Financial Officer

Responsibilities

• Drive the overall financial activities of the Center, building the finance team as needed to support organizational growth. Lead revenue cycle activities, M&A, finance, cash management, accounting, reporting, planning and analytics, budgeting, forecasting, AR/AP, and payroll. Manage banking relationships.
• Manage and lead a best-in-class accounting and finance department by promoting best practices, instilling a culture of collaboration, ensuring the administrative and clinical teams have a clear and compelling vision of a success, and building systems, processes and teams to create efficiencies and accommodate growth.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with CEO, staff, investors, banks, and third parties in an effort to be highly integrated into operations and effectively support the company’s initiatives.
• Understand unit economics – revenue and cost drivers – and create actionable insights that drive operational efficiencies across the organization.
• Manage IT function for the Center, ensuring that information systems and reporting tools provide employees and management with the information needed to make sound operating decisions.
• Own monthly, quarterly and annual preparation of timely and insightful operational and financial reports to facilitate decision support and operational excellence. Develop expedited monthly close procedures, including the integration and consolidation of all locations, to comply with close and reporting requirements of management and the private equity investor.
• Design and implement best practices for proper and consistent internal controls across locations.
• Manage the HR function, ensuring that the company’s benefits, payroll, and insurance processes are efficient and cost effective. Oversee the annual insurance renewals for all insurance programs at the Company.

Skill Requirements

• Financial and accounting competence – demonstrated ability to lead the finance and accounting function of a high-growth, investor-backed healthcare services organization. This includes a successful history of leading finance and accounting functions, creating analytics and reporting to provide visibility and confidence to key stakeholders, and running a smooth monthly, quarterly and annual financial close compliant with GAAP. Proven health services revenue cycle expertise is a must-have.
• Strong leader with vision and foresight – ability to create a strategic vision for the integration of all finance and accounting functions between current and future locations and for the solidification and of all processes, systems, and teams.
• Ability and willingness to assume all hands-on activities – hands-on execution of all accounting, systems, finance, reporting and management activities, especially during the initial period of assessment and optimization. Mindset to proactively bring ideas and solutions to the table. Confidence to be a key contributor during subsequent periods of growth, acquisition and integration.
• Excellent proactive communication skills including written, verbal and presentation skills – must be able to articulately communicate financial status, ideas, and rationale to CEO and all stakeholders across all mediums including management and investors. Ability to quickly build rapport and establish credibility; easily adaptable to a friendly yet no-nonsense culture of direct and transparent communication.
• Strong leadership skills – highly collaborative leadership style, able to facilitate unity and promote action among key leadership, stakeholders and staff at both locations. Possess the ability to manage, grow, and right-size a team. The ability to motivate, inspire, and coach in an effort to bring out the best in people across the finance (and broader) organization. • Results oriented – the CFO must be performance-driven and able to provide measurable results. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, action-oriented and decisive leader who establishes clarity in the midst of distractions to produce results in a timely fashion.
• Possess personal attributes that would be described as hands-on, confident, proactive, hyper-communicative, entrepreneurial, flexible, and collaborative.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) desired.
• At least 15+ years of finance and accounting experience.
• Experience working in a medical practice environment with multiple locations.
• Experience working for a private equity backed organization preferred.
• Experience within environments of high growth, acquisition and integration.
