Description
An Accounting/Finance Intern will develop a working knowledge of the Burns & McDonnell Accounting Department through a rotational internship. This position will work with various accounting teams including but not limited to Financial Reporting, Contract Analysts, Project Accounting, Accounts Payable, Tax, and Internal Audit. This is an in-office position located at our Headquarters in Kansas City. An intern will perform a variety of activities such as assisting with:
Financial reporting activities such as reconciliations, journal entries and month-end reporting deliverables.
Financial analysis and review of key performance indicators of the company, divisions and locations to provide meaningful insight.
Tax activities such as estimated tax calculations, return preparation, and other tax filing preparation.
Project accounting duties including review of vendor/subcontractor invoices, verification of receipt of materials/equipment or other deliverables with project teams, and assistance with review and reconciliation of project financials.
Internal audit activities including review of the company’s internal controls, traveler expenses and physical verification of assets
Accounts payable activities which include processing AP invoices via OnBase software platform, processing AP payments, investigating and resolving issues with Procurement group and Project Teams.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Pursuit of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related program
Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education in a field related to the work done in the department.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
