Purpose of the position:
The primary purpose of this position is to plan, implement, control, and provide management oversight to the financial activities of the County.
Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience: Master’s degree in accounting, business, finance, government, or public administration with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in financial management, audit, revenue management, working capital, and cash flow management, including at least three (3) years of experience as a finance director of a like-sized government. Proven experience and knowledge of the relevant legislative framework of local government related to finance and tax collections.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Certified Public Accountant (CPA); NC Certified local Government Finance Officer and/or Certified Public Finance Officer preferred.

In order to uphold internal pay parity and equity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current Buncombe County employees. All new employees are paid according to their years of relevant education and experience above minimum requirements for the position and employees have the opportunity to obtain pay increases via cost of living increases and promotions.
