The Division of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs is responsible for developing and offering non-credit and credit courses and programs for 6000 high school students, as well as Brown University undergraduate and Visiting Students from other institutions. Students participate in programs on Brown University’s Providence campus, as well as online and in other locations. Within the Division there are teams of staff who are responsible for marketing, admissions, enrollment, academic content, instructional delivery, student life, finance, human resources, payroll, and the various policies and protocols associated with this work. The staff works closely with colleagues from across the University to ensure success, including the Enrollment Division, Office of Information Technology (OIT), Office of University Communications, Division of Campus Life, and Facilities.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Finance & Administration, the Director of Finance & Operations is a critical member of the Finance & Operations team. The Director manages the staff responsible for multiple critical tasks, including instructional program support, finance operations, seasonal hiring and building operations. The Director serves as HR Business Partner for seasonal positions and oversees the HR functions for all programs (700+ seasonal positions filled annually). The Director oversees day to day financial operations for the division including purchasing, expense reimbursements, supply ordering, purchasing card activity and contracts management. The Director ensures logistical support for programs, instructors, courses, and services offered through the division, providing opportunities to develop and improve processes, policies, and service.
The Director will support the Associate Dean, and other divisional staff to strategically plan for new initiatives (as both pilots, and sustained activities), future directions and long-term growth within the division.
The Director works closely with several University partners to ensure success in all programming and internal operations including but not limited to Human Resources, Controller’s Office, Accounts Payable, Office of Financial Strategy & Planning, Dean of the Faculty, Facilities, Telecommunications, Academic Departments, Schools, Centers, and Institutes.
Major responsibilities include:
Oversee and direct day-to-day financial operations (35%)
Oversight of all seasonal Human Resources functions, Human Resources Business Partner (35%)
Supervise Finance & Operations staff (20%)
Oversight of day to day building operations. Other duties as assigned (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years related experience, preferably in higher education setting, or the equivalent combination of experience and education required.
Management experience required.
Outstanding organizational skills and ability to do detail-oriented work.
Demonstrated ability to plan and communicate projects, priorities and goals.
High level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps for Education.
Ability to troubleshoot in a high-volume, fast-moving and dynamic work environment.
Ability to work across organizational units on campus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Public speaking and presentation skills preferred.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while collaborating with others.
Excellent judgment; experience handling highly confidential data.
Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
