Description
Boulder County Public Works is seeking to hire an Accountant III. The Accountant III is the supervisory level classification in the professional accounting series. Under general direction, the Accountant III performs a variety of complex and specialized professional accounting duties requiring a thorough knowledge of professional accounting principles and procedures.
This is a full-time, benefitted position. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm. This position will work initially remotely before transitioning to 2 – 5 days in the Boulder County Public Works Office, located at 2525 13th St., Boulder, CO, 80304. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $67,944.00 – $82,890.00 Annually
Classification Salary Range: $67,944.00 – $97,836.00 Annually
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
- First Round Interviews: October 14th & 15th
Examples of Duties
- Establishes and maintains the county’s general accounting systems in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles and in conformance with appropriate federal, state and local regulations and guidelines
- Reconciles expenditures with budget appropriations; makes adjustments resulting from budget revisions
- Prepares reports which serve as a basis for budget requests
- Performs internal audits and suggests methods to improve controls
- Prepares a portion of the annual financial statements
- Prepares A133 reports for publication
- Maintains accounting details and posting of a complete set of unit cost and business accounts including all journals and ledgers.
- Verifies all account balances and control records
- Conducts performance appraisals, counsels employees concerning performance and recommends personnel actions in the areas of hiring, termination, promotion and discipline
- May analyze grant activity and verify compliance with grantor requirements and prepare financial reports to grantors
- May coordinate preparation of the Cost Allocation Plan
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 8 years of combined education and experience, specifically a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus four years of professional accounting experience including one year in a supervisory capacity.
