Position: Manager of Financial Planning, BMC Health System

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Responsible for the coordination, control and assimilation of the BMC Health System annual operating budget, through leadership and coordination of timelines and deliverables with finance leadership across the System, including, but not limited to, the Medical Center, the BMC Health Plan, the Boston Accountable Care Organization, Boston University Medical Group (BUMG), the Captive.
Manage teams responsible for both the System and Hospital’s annual operating budget and forecast processes (including report outs to executive management and Board).
Recruit, hire, supervise and mentor the staff. Provide ongoing training and education, including cross-training, to build bench strength, career ladders and help ensure staff job satisfaction
Oversee G/L based management reporting requirements (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually based on the content). Partner with VPs to help them understand variance trends, and interpret complex financial information in a way that is simple to use and understand. Continue to look for ways to improve reporting tools and analysis to help leadership drive results and improve operating performance
Oversee volume reporting and analysis as a means to inform the financial performance and planning processes
Creates a customer service focused culture within the teams that encourages partnerships with operations staff (and is non-intimidating to non-finance managers); responds to requests for financial analysis in a timely and accurate manner
Ability to create presentations and structure discussions with System and Hospital leaders at various levels of the organization to facilitate decision making
Track the use of hospital contingency funds, provide mid-year financial forecasts, and work with senior management to make interventions during the year as needed.
Support union labor negotiations and non-union compensation planning by forecasting expense implications of potential wage/benefit increase scenarios.
Coordinate significant portion of Hospital’s internal and external surveys and financial and statistical reporting (BOTHFO, AAMC, MHA, CHIA, etc.).
Collaborate with the BUMG finance team to streamline intercompany processes and ensure proper accounting of intercompany transactions.
Oversee financial application development and support (in coordination with Finance Information Systems). Expectations include continued development, refinement and enhancement of applications (currently Strata) for greater insight and efficiency, along staff cultivation into system super-users.
Work closely with Finance Information System team on any changes or upgrades to budget and capital planning systems (currently Strata). Attend user conferences and keep abreast of new tools and best practices that may help move the organization’s planning process forward.
Manage the budget and expense tracking for the EOHHS ACO DSRIP program, including supervising a financial analyst, overseeing the invoice process, managing a monthly close process and coordinating with various stakeholders and financial leadership within BACO, BUMG, BMCHP, the Hospital and the System. Provide updates on spending against budget as needed and for auditing and reporting purposes. Maintain detailed records of expenses and allocation methodology across Health System entities
Manage the budget and expense tracking for the Provider Relief Fund reporting, including overseeing the reporting process, coordinating with various stakeholders.
Lead in providing day-to-day financial management and support to corporate functions
Attend, provide materials for and present to the Finance Committee meetings, as requested
Represent Finance on appropriate committees and forums
Oversee special projects and other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree (major in Finance, Accounting Economics), OR 5 years of directly related experience in Finance required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) through the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) a plus
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 4 years of finance experience with healthcare provider
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook) required with Advanced Excel and presentation building skills and experience in building financial models and clear, concise presentation materials
Experience with following systems preferred:
Infor
Strata
Proficiency in development of operational and capital equipment budgets and forecasts
Proficiency in system solutions and leveraging solutions for financial process improvements
