The Southeast (SE) System Head of Finance (HoF) is a senior leadership position within the SE system with reporting lines to the North America regional CFO and SE System leader. Key aspects of the role include:
Serve as strategic thought partner to System Leader and leadership team on all aspects of running and growing the system; provide decision-support to the system leadership team on critical topics
Lead all aspects of local finance for the system (e.g. P&L oversight, capacity planning, forecasting, investments, cost management)
Interface with regional team (Commercial Finance, FP&A, Finance Operations and Accounting) to execute on financial plan and change agenda
Evaluate lead flow, pipeline, wins / loss analysis and backlog, continuously manage demand forecast revisions and drivers for outlook
Manage risk within the system (commercial and operational)
Implement firm policies and procedures
Manage local finance staff
Drive and support broader global and regional finance transformation agenda (including shared service migration)
Help drive regional and global finance initiatives, including ClientView adoption, BI&A (business intelligence and analytics) migration, shared services, policy harmonization, etc.
The Southeast System is one of 7 newly formed North America Systems, consisting of 6 offices: Atlanta, Miami, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham, Mexico City and Monterrey. The HoF is a part of the Southeast system leadership team as well as the NA Finance leadership team. The HoF provides FP&A and decision support to SE system leadership, office leadership, system consulting and business services team. The HOF will interact regularly with Managing Directors and Partners (MDPs) and other members of senior consulting staff.
The NA Finance function is structured around 3 pillars: FP&A and Decision Support (regional and system), Commercial Finance support (regional) and Finance Accounting and Operations (FAO, regional and global). The HoF will be responsible for FP&A and Decision Support for the SE leadership team. The HoF will also need to interface and team effectively with regional finance teams (FP&A, Commercial Finance and FAO), as well as other functional teams including Recruiting, Talent Management, People Team, etc.
The Finance function at BCG is undergoing a fundamental transformation – in systems and data, reporting, organization structure, and service delivery. The HoF will be responsible for evolving our system finance capability from one of reporting and controllership, to one of decision support and strategic insight. The ability to drive change is essential as we work to evolve the role and capabilities of our Finance teams to meet the needs of the business. We have ambitious growth plans and a meaningful commercial agenda, the HoF will be critical to the sustainable growth of the system.
The expectation is that this will be filled as a Director commensurate with experience and capability set.
Decision support, strategic / financial oversight:
Manage system level P&L and forecast across all aspects of local P&L
Support leadership to develop and execute short, mid, longer term system strategy
Act as business partner to SE system leadership, office leadership, local MDP group, and Business Service Team leadership.
Provide insight and analysis to support SE leadership in running the business
Develop and monitor key metrics of business performance and make recommendations for action to leadership
Actively participate in system leadership meetings
Own the analysis & reporting to support effective management of the business, and improve it as the system evolves and grows
Capacity and cost management:
Lead consultant capacity planning process
Coordinate and manage consultant capacity on monthly basis. This requires stakeholder management across many functions and varying levels of the organization.
Lead the production and analysis for annual operational budgets and forecasts in accordance with regional and global guidelines, business trends and line management
Work with Business Services Directors across system to develop the most efficient support model for estimate and plan process
Lead comparison and analysis of cost across the offices and look for opportunities to improve efficiency and create consistency
Look for opportunities to improve reporting to support the effective management of the business, particularly as it evolves and grows
Deployment, investments and demand forecasting:
Assist leadership in reviewing investments, ensuring high ROI choices
Work in close partnership with Talent Management team to consistently convert deployment to revenue
Monitor commercial pipeline, wins and backlog to ensure alignment between commercial agenda and people agenda
Develop and manage system-based demand forecast (short and mid-term)
Drive proper review, best practice sharing, monitoring, and accounting of Value Based Pricing and Commercial Investment Tracking across cases, and advise system leadership on investment economics and tradeoffs
Interface with NA commercial finance support team for purposes of accurately reflecting commercial activity into local deployment plans and demand forecasts
Team Development:
Manage, train, develop SE finance team (currently 3 team members)
Drive cohesive best practices, identify gaps in SE team capabilities, own team roles and responsibilities, and drive optimal resource deployment
Set general direction for training, development, and mentorship across the system finance function
Other Responsibilities:
Actively participate in regional Finance leadership team and activities
Support global Finance transformation, Masterchef (ERP) implementation, while meeting current needs of the business
Establish and foster close ties with other system Heads of Finance and regional finance leadership to better drive best practices and operational excellence
Ensure proper risk compliance and mitigation standards are in place across the offices, manage local risk audit and monitoring processes
Work with finance leads across the system to ensure proper monitoring of buildout/capex financials is in place
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
MBA preferred
10+ years of experience in financial analysis/planning or general accounting
5+ years of managerial experience preferred
Experience in a professional services environnent a plus
Good working knowledge of personal computer systems and above average competency in spreadsheet programs, utilizing a windows environment (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Business Objects, Oracle)
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong knowledge of principles, procedures, and practices of general accounting
