Job Description
Book of the Month is growing and looking for a savvy Manager, Accounting and Finance to execute the monthly close process, financial reporting, budgeting & planning, and other operational and financial analyses. This is a great position for a disciplined, reliable accounting professional who is seeking to broaden their learning and experience by being on small and nimble finance team.
You will…
Accounting
- Manage the month-end close process, including sales, inventory, COGS, deferred revenue, cash, and SG&A
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Improve departmental processes and procedures to expedite the close process while ensuring accuracy of financial information
- Participate in the annual audit
- Reconcile sales tax filings to collections monthly to confirm accurate calculation of withholdings
- Research and implement new accounting and reporting software and processes as needed.
Finance
- Prepare monthly FP&A package, investigate discrepancies, and provide variance explanations
- Prepare and reconcile semi-annual royalty statements
- Assist with development of forecasts and budgets
- Build reports in Tableau by working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, data, and/or member services teams
- Contribute to various analyses and projects across the company.
About you…
- 3+ years of accounting experience with in-depth knowledge of GAAP, CPA a plus
- Experience at an inventory-based CPG growth-stage company preferred
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- Tech savvy and MS Excel power user. Experience with or exposure to accounting software (e.g. Netsuite, Oracle) and/or BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker) preferred.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Love of new-release fiction is a plus!
