The Director – Finance is a highly valued strategic and operational partner to the leadership of Baptist physician enterprise. This position partners with practice leaders to develop operational and financial objectives and to drive improvement in operational metrics. This position oversees the design and delivery of financial reporting, analysis, insight, recommendations, leadership and action to successfully shape the financial performance of the practices. This position educates the physician enterprise operations personnel and physicians on financial terms, concepts, and skills necessary to understand and drive performance improvement. This position establishes, manages, and monitors policies and procedures for the enterprise that ensures the maximization of productivity and profitability and ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and corporate policies and utilizes business and analytical skills to identify gaps in the current business plan and actively refresh the financial outlook and strategy.This position assumes direct accountability for the financial operations and will lead and motivate a team to achieve the agreed upon results. The role will include implementing value-based reimbursement models in a clinically integrated network setting and aligning care management and care team processes to optimize value-based approaches to patient care and reimbursement
Responsiblities
Oversees accounting and financial reporting activities for all Baptist Physician Enterprise (BPE) entities. Is responsible for the fiscal management of division; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources. Is responsible for department’s operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Prepares and presents information to BPE leadership in clear, concise formats that enable leaders and physicians to understand the key financial drivers of the business. Provides education as necessary to executives, physicians and staff on financial concepts important to the business.
Stays abreast of developments in practice management, physician compensation, physician practice revenue cycle, and other related areas and brings innovative ideas to the table. Proactively identifies opportunities for operational improvement, obtains buy-in and prioritization from physician enterprise leadership, and works with appropriate stakeholders to realize those opportunities.
Works closely with Baptist Health Care revenue cycle Leaders and other stakeholders to improve performance in revenue realization in areas such as denials management, time of service collections, registration, scheduling, charge capture and accurate coding.
Assists in the development of financial strategic plans, short-term business plans, operating and capital budgets, annual goals and objectives, and new program proformas.
Participates collaboratively with the controller in the monthly close. Works to improve the timeliness and efficiency of the close process. Identifies, reviews, and research issues during the close. Validates contractual adjustment calculations. Also responsible for participating in and supporting the annual external financial audit.
Oversees physician compensation and ensures that physicians are paid according to the terms of their agreements and in accordance with BPE policy. Works with leadership to evaluate and model potential changes in compensation methods or amounts and to recommend and communicate changes in policy.
Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff. Aids in ensuring clear communications and coordination between president BPE, operations administrators, practice administrators, and BHC finance and corporate accounting.
Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
Works closely with decision support, revenue cycle, and IT to create analytics tools to support operations staff and physicians to understand the business and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Selects, supervises, trains, mentors, and evaluates departmental staff in order to develop a high-performance team that provides high quality financial advice and excellent customer service; leads succession planning efforts for physician finance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Accounting, Business, Finance Required
Master’s Degree Accounting, Business, Health Care Administration Preferred
5 years Relevant experience in healthcare finance Required
2 years Experience in managerial finance Required
