This county-wide recruitment will establish a Senior
Accounting Assistant Countywide Candidate Pool
of qualified applicants for Regular and Temporary Senior
Accounting Assistant openings for multiple departments. This candidate
pool will be used to fill current and future vacancies throughout the
county.
Please note, some Senior Accounting Assistant job openings
may not be filled using this candidate pool and will require you to
apply separately.

HOW IT WORKS

Probation Department is hiring Temporary Senior
Accounting Assistants Throughout Riverside County.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The role includes various tasks such as
preparing revenue reports, handling customer deposits, cashiering,
collections, generating invoices, and reconciling accounts. It also
involves customer assistance, data research, and journal entries.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Prepare
reports on the status of service accounts, contracts, grants, fee
receipts, entitlements and reimbursed programs, accounts receivable,
accounts payable, trust accounts; prepare regular reports of revenues
and expenditures which are sent directly to management.
• Answer
questions that involve searching for and abstracting technical data
and detailed explanations of laws, policies or procedures referring
matters requiring policy decisions to a superior.
• Develop or
assist in the development of software applications to collect and
manipulate accounting data and fiscal information; prepare
spreadsheets compiling revenue activity and trends for management use;
reformat data or create specific reports, charts or graphs.
• Assist
staff in solving, or personally respond to, the more complex and
difficult inquiries; train and orient new staff members; review and
correct work.
• Provide technical supervision to staff maintaining
and compiling computer generated spreadsheets, tracking incoming
revenue, auditing daily deposits reconciliations, preparing daily
deposits and reconciliation and revenue distribution reports, posting
and reconciling trust funds and revenue ledgers.
• Supervise a small
number of lower level Accounting Assistants and clerical support
staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION
I
Experience: One year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II
with the County of Riverside or an equivalent position.
OPTION
II
Experience: Three years of experience in the review,
reconciliation, and preparation of financial accounts. (Substitution:
One year of the required experience may be substituted with the
completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter units in accounting from an
accredited college.)
Knowledge of: Basic methods, practices, and
terminology of fiscal record keeping, basic business mathematics;
checks, money orders and other common negotiable instruments and their
proper validation and endorsement; common methods of balancing cash
and checks against records of receipt; methods of handling, recording
and controlling monies received and disbursed; basic
mathematical/fiscal computer applications; Basic payroll practices and
procedures including FLSA requirements; Accounting systems,
procedures, regulations and source documents including expenditure,
revenue, general ledger and related accounting procedures and the
interrelationship of internal and external record keeping systems;
general bookkeeping, accounting and audit methodology, terminology and
standards.
Ability to: Make arithmetical computations quickly and
accurately; operate standard office equipment which may include
computers, calculators, cash registers, adding machines, and
duplicating machines; read, understand and follow written and oral
instructions; use computerized accounting systems; prepare data in
proper format for data entry; understand and maintain financial
accounting files or other record systems; recognize and correct
computational errors; accurately compare, post and transfer numbers;
understand transactions in terms of accounting codes and
classifications; prepare routine and special financial reports;
communicate effectively by phone or in person; learn County accounting
systems; establish and maintain effective working relationships with
others; Perform a wide variety of difficult and responsible
financial/accounting duties involving a broad range of
technical/complex and/or specialized transactions; review and
consolidate records from multiple sources and summarize into reports,
abstracts and other accounting documents; analyze data and draw
logical conclusions; review and evaluate the work of lower level
accounting clerical staff may be required for some positions in the
class.

MISCELLANEOUS
RETIREMENT : County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers
through the California Public Employees’ Retirement System
(CalPERS).
A new member is defined as
any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members
that do not fit within the definition of a new member as “classic
members”.
Contribution rates are subject to change based on the
County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee
contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan
options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0410 or more years =
160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480
hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period
with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per
year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2
additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC
LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed
$50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County.
Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee
purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a
maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST
RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the
County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as
governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.

may be other benefit provisions as specified in the applicable
