Position Overview
Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Finance is the executive finance partner to Autodesk’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role is, in effect, the chief financial officer for the COO and is an excellent stepping stone to a total company chief financial officer role over time. At Autodesk, the COO leads Worldwide Sales, Customer Success, Digital Platforms & Experience (including Digital Enterprise Systems and Global Operations), and Worldwide Marketing, a critical, strategic organization that spans the globe, comprises more than 5,800 employees, and is projected to deliver more than $4B in annual revenue this fiscal year. Included in the Worldwide Sales organization are: named accounts, global territory sales, license compliance, and ecommerce. Total annual expense for the COO organization is close to $1.5B. The role oversees finance partner support for the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), Chief Customer Officer (CCO), Chief Transformation Officer (CXO) and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
The SVP of COO Finance is a critical member of the finance leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) while having a dotted line reporting relationship to the Chief Operating Officer. The role will lead the COO Finance team, which consists of approximately 140 staff located around the world, with concentrations in San Francisco, Portland, Farnborough UK, Paris, Barcelona, Beijing, Tokyo, Singapore, and India. The annual operating budget for the team exceeds $28M.
The position will oversee top line financial planning at Autodesk as it enters its next growth phase as a company, which includes multi-year planning across billings, ACV, revenue, and key operating metrics as well as partnering to drive the strategy and programs needed on the ground to achieve the company’s financial goals, grow and scale our business and transform the customer experience.
The role is also a key thought leader and partner to the CFO as we look to achieve our worldwide finance vision: to be the most insightful, innovative, digital and admired finance team in the industry as we guide Autodesk’s growth journey as a customer company. Responsibilities
Manage and provide strategic leadership to the COO Finance organization which consists of five direct reports and ~140 global staff. Each direct report supports one or more senior leaders in Autodesk’s COO organizations
Provide strategic business partnering to the COO leadership team as we continue to grow and scale our business, our focus on transforming the customer experience, and our go-to-market capabilities
Ensure Autodesk COO organizations support continuing long-term growth and health, through sound strategy and strong execution
Take a leadership role to drive the company’s business model and ensure the appropriate performance management processes and key management information are in place
Oversee the billings, revenue, ACV, and other key metrics planning for the company in connection with the strategic and annual planning process, including related requisite modeling and sensitivity analysis
Manage operating expenses of COO organizations. Ensure we operate within approved spending levels, and drive productivity improvements throughout the organization. Support the COO leadership in connection with the optimal management of the operating expenses, with an emphasis on on-going productivity improvements in all areas of the business
Provide critical decision-making support regarding the allocation and monitoring of investment funds which may become available from time to time to accelerate future growth
Drive ad hoc analysis critical to maximizing the effectiveness of the COO organizations in the near, medium and long-term
Analyze business results, providing deep insight into on-going trends and performance
Ensure compliance with sales contracting, discounting, and revenue recognition policies and processes as well as all applicable laws, regulations and company policies
Ensure optimal commercial success for Autodesk, reviewing non-standard deals as a member of the Corporate Deal Review Board
Support development of Autodesk channel strategy and framework. Ensure programs can be properly implemented, forecasted, calculated and paid
Develop and report on Autodesk long term price realization goals
Manage, train and develop COO finance team. Be an active mentor and role model across the Autodesk organization
Drive global finance initiatives involving broad cross functional teams. Be a part of the future of finance at Autodesk- help us realize our vision to be the best finance team in the industry!
Minimum Qualifications
Experienced leader and financial executive with 15+ years of broad, results-driven finance experience, ideally in a large public software company
Energetic, forward thinking as well as creativity with the highest ethical standards
Strong accounting and finance skills
Strong record of accomplishments
Focus on process improvement/automation
Results orientation
Strong people leader who manages with empathy; passion for people development across the team
Good communication skills with the ability to influence effectively
MBA and/or CPA certification
Ability to travel at least ~20% of the time (although really this is TBD as we emerge from the pandemic)
