Global Merchant Services is the merchant acquirer, processor, and marketing partner for the millions of merchants around the world who accept the American Express Card.
The Director, Finance LFO is responsible for all the Finance and strategic decision support to the U.S. Global Client Group segment, the team that manages the relationships with our large, global merchants. This position is also responsible for the GMS investment optimization process in collaboration with key business partners, International LFO and analytical teams.
The role directly supports the EVP GCG and interfaces with the GMNS CFO, business leaders and various Finance teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain deep knowledge of the Merchant Services business and play a leading role in managing and modernizing the GMNS investment process.
This is a high-visibility role with frequent exposure to senior leaders in Business and Finance. As such, the ideal candidate must possess not only exceptional analytical acumen, but also excellent communication skills and the ability to tailor complex messages to the appropriate audience in a very collaborative manner.
Key responsibilities:
Lead planning and financial analysis for the U.S. Global Client Group (GCG) in partnership with FP&A. Prepare and lead monthly financial reviews with business partners, provide in-depth analysis on financial performance, industry/merchant volume trends, impact of macroeconomic indicators, etc.
Identify risks & opportunities and develop metrics to actively manage the profitability of the GCG merchant portfolio.
Support business case development for merchant value propositions and volume expansion opportunities.
Develop and regularly present analytics to senior leaders and interface with business partners.
Manage the GMS investment process. Provide insights on investment performance and utilization. Drive innovation in how GMS measures, tracks, and analyzes investments to support investment optimization and decisioning.
Lead the end-to-end annual GMS investment plan in close partnership with business partners, includes establishing timelines amongst multiple stakeholders, developing individual business targets, holistic capacity management and advisory on business cases.
Partner with FP&A team to develop GMNS presentation materials for quarterly AXP Executive Committee meeting and Business Unit Reviews with CFO.
Evaluate and revamp processes and reporting tools to drive efficiencies.
Energize and inspire a team of managers and analysts who provide value-add consultative and analytical support to the Merchant Services GCG segment.
Foster a diverse and inclusive culture.
Actively support the GMNS Colleague Engagement activities.
Provide thought leadership to pan-Finance initiatives, such as Merchant Profitability.
Qualifications

Solid ability to adopt a broad perspective and link business strategies to specific initiatives. Knowledge of coding/SQL/Cornerstone an advantage, willingness to learn required.

5+ years of Finance or business analytical experience.
Master’s degree in business administration or Finance is preferred.
