The Global Rewards Finance team manages the largest expense line on the American Express P&L and one of the largest balance sheet items – the reserve for Membership Rewards. The team provides strategic financial analysis to help develop winning strategies to enhance our cardmember experience, grow our business and uphold our reputation.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain a deep understanding of American Express’ rewards offerings to Card Members. This Manager-level role in the Global Rewards Finance team is responsible for US Card Member Rewards reporting, forecasting and analytics. The candidate will be directly involved in decisions that affect rewards expense in areas such as airline-partner negotiations and proprietary rewards strategy and will be expected to independently own and lead multiple projects with tight deadlines. Specific responsibilities will fall within three aspects: portfolio analytics and decision support, reporting of monthly and quarterly results and forecasting of future expectations. Fulfilling these responsibilities will require interacting closely with senior leaders across Finance and business units as well as leading presentations and working sessions with key stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will bring a unique balance of strong analytical skills, the ability to communicate effectively and a comfort with ambiguity. They must be able to build solid, trust-based relationships with business partners, empowering them to deliver outstanding, reward programs to our cardmembers while simultaneously driving optimal profitability for shareholders.
Leading all aspects of monthly results analysis including providing coherent stories, strategic insights and a clear view on performance to senior finance and business leaders
Working closely with business development partners to size and forecast impacts of deal negotiations
Supporting monthly R&O processes, the annual plan and long range plan; synthesizing and presenting core messages to senior leadership
Leading and supporting ad-hoc and ongoing analytical projects, influencing rewards strategy for both new and existing products and driving prioritization efforts
Evaluating current processes and recommending improvements/efficiencies
Acting as subject matter expert for US card member rewards expense – owning rewards expense and liability modeling
Building and leveraging relationships to enable efficient and collaborative decision making
Bachelors degree required (Finance/Economics preferred)
3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred
Highly-motivated with an ability to drive results and work with ambiguity
Exemplary communication skills with the ability to break down complex ideas into understandable and actionable messages to both executive and market audiences
Effective relationship building skills with the ability to work across Marketing, Finance, and Controllership
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently without sacrificing quality
High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required
TM1, SQL, and SAS knowledge a plus
Knowledge of loyalty reward programs and card economics a plus
