Job ID: R28430 Loss Control Specialist (IL/IN – Open to Remote) (Open) Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Compensation Minimum: 68,200 Compensation Maximum: 109,200 Summary: The Loss Control Specialist provides customized risk control assessments on our existing book of business. Works with accounts to improve overall safety and occupational health exposures and reduce the exposure to loss for commercial and farm/ranch accounts in partnership with Commercial Operations, Claims, the field force and customers. Determines potential hazards and risk factors to prevent adverse risk selection and uses collaborative relationships to achieve divisional goals and initiatives. Job Description: Primary Accountabilities Loss Control and Safety Expertise (50%) Conducts research to identify exposures and activities that present the greatest loss potential. Conducts loss control survey at existing client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to prevent adverse risk selection. Writes technical detailed reports that provide a clear assessment of risk and clearly articulate recommendations for the underwriting team. Provides comprehensive resources and information to both internal and external customers on class of business, operations, unique or unidentified exposures, or any other technical subject matter. Actively works to keep loss frequency and severity in line with corporate profit and growth plan. Works collaboratively with Loss Control Management and C-F/R staff to identify potential new product development opportunities and/or hazards. Provides underwriting with clear and concise direction on risk that may impact our loss ratio in a negative way. Loss Control Relationship and Knowledge Management (30%) Maintains current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety and loss control issues. Builds and maintains productive relationships with Commercial-Farm/Ranch staff, other divisions, and the field force to provide service for the most complex and high-profile accounts. Creates customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of loss control services to existing accounts. Markets appropriate American Family and Loss Control products and services to customers. Uses loss control knowledge to provide subject matter guidance to business partners including Education and Marketing for the design and development of materials to support Commercial Farm/Ranch Loss Control Proactively seeks out information regarding the specialty of loss control including loss control technologies, trends and best practices. Appropriately communicates this information to division staff and the field force. Acts as a liaison to education to provide feedback from Commercial Farm/Ranch departments and the field on the effectiveness and usability of the training materials and programs. Assist in the development of loss control training material as needed. Conduct formal and informal knowledge sharing sessions with division, corporate and field staff. Continuing Service (20%) Develops comprehensive service plans for services to be delivered and appropriate resources to be used. Negotiates with and manages client’s expectations to achieve appropriate balance between service and cost. Works with client on the application of loss control safety products that will result in loss reduction in conjunction with achieving client’s risk management goals. Applies service plan in helping client’s ongoing systems for continuous safety improvements. Consults with clients on safety and loss control activities as they relate to ongoing changes in complex operations. Monitors and manages Loss Control Continuing Service to ensure compliance with Service Plan and to achieve client’s risk management goals. Participates in presentations for potential Loss Control customers. Trains customers in relevant topics as needed Working Conditions This position requires the ability to work with exposure to outside weather conditions between 1 and 33% of the time. Travel Requirements This position requires travel up to 50% of the time. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service Demonstrated experience in the construction industry or solid understanding of commercial underwriting practices. Valid driver’s license required plus an acceptable driving record. Education & Licenses Obtain state specific property casualty claims licensing as required. Physical Demands This position requires the ability to climb or balance between 1 and 33% of the time. This position requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl between 1 and 33% of the time.
