Finance Manager – GCS BU FP&A
The Business Unit Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (BUFP&A) in Corporate Planning was established to centralize financial planning and analysis activities across American Express. The Global Commercial Services (GCS) BUFP&A team is primarily responsible for Close Control, Results Analysis, and Client Segment financial reporting and analysis.
The Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager role will support a variety of critical financial deliverables in support of the Global Commercial Services organization. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for monthly results analysis as well as detailed segment level results analyses for consumption by our internal business partners, greater Corporate Planning team, and American Express Senior Leadership. Key responsibilities will include monthly results analysis and updates and income statement (P&L) results reporting for the business on a global level, as well as ad hoc requests and contributions to presentations to senior level management. This reporting includes variance commentary and analysis. This position reports to the GCS BUFP&A Director and will have two direct reports.

The successful candidate will have a strategic and analytical mindset, is comfortable collaborating with internal customers, can work closely with leaders and has the aptitude to drive change and process improvement.
Moreover, the manager in this role will have the opportunity to build relationships across the planning communities globally and gain exposure to senior Finance leaders as part of their overall responsibilities.
Provide reporting and close control support for the GCS business, aiding in vital monthly processes and maintaining quality and accuracy of business and client segment P&L and metrics data.
Produce insights that will support decision-making by senior leaders on business initiatives designed to shape the future direction of the company.
Partner with the LFO team on investigation of P&L variances to ensure accurate understanding of results as well as correct accounting treatment of new initiatives and/or projects.
Develop expertise of overall GCS P&L, metrics, and drivers of financial performance.
Lead month-end close and P&L Risk and Opportunities process for GCS P&L
Lead Annual Long Range Plan & Annual Plan process for GCS P&L.
Drive consensus with other Finance teams and represent GCS Finance to other AXP Business Units.
Support creation of Senior Leadership presentations focusing on financial updates on financial results, latest outlooks, and longer range plans.
Partner with Finance Transformation team to implement and test new finance systems and processes and drive adoption.
Work closely with Investor Relations, External Reporting, Controllership, GCS Business and GCS LFO organization.
Strong Excel and Powerpoint skills and understanding of Oracle and TM1 required
Proficiency in SQL and big data sources/tools (Cornerstone, Yellowstone etc.) preferred.
Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Ability to manage multiple priorities through strong organizational skills, demonstrate personal excellence, and strong attention to detail.
Ability to demonstrate leadership of team of direct reports.
Strong team player with an ability to deliver in a cross-functional environment.
Strong communication and relationship building skills.
Must be able to delegate and influence across the greater team.
5-7 years of accounting/financial reporting experience.
Knowledge of credit card economics preferred.
