JOB SUMMARY
The Deputy Campaign Manager will be part of the team responsible for the execution of a state by state “Project 1350 – Reducing the Tobacco Burden” campaign. This position will be responsible for executing duties as assigned for the campaign and will serve as issue and campaign resource to ACS CAN field staff in applying this campaign priority for state and local legislative and regulatory initiatives. In partnership with ACS CAN regional and field staff, this includes representing ACS CAN with external and internal partners, stakeholders and forming new partnerships to support the campaign work in the 13 tobacco nation states as well as participating in tobacco campaign discussions at the state and local government levels. Act as the social/digital media lead for the campaign team. Contribute to the development, analysis, guidance for the campaigns and utilize best practice programs to support the “Tobacco Nation” strategies. Support staff by drafting and/or adapting legislative testimony, talking points, fact sheets, etc. for a legislative audience and by training and assisting with strategic and other planning. Participate in ACS CAN fund-raising opportunities as appropriate.
This is a time limited funded position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the deputy campaign manager for ACS CAN “Tobacco Nation” nationwide strategic campaign with the goal of passing tobacco taxes, smoke-free and other ACS CAN tobacco priority policies in the 13 tobacco nation states over 3-5 years.
In consultation with Sr. Director, Campaign Manager and other appropriate ACS CAN DC based staff, work with ACS CAN and ACS field state support and implementation of the state/local campaign plans, including coalition and grassroots development, media advocacy, and lobbying components of the plan.
Contribute to ensuring grassroots elements of the campaigns are supported and implemented.
Work with state and local, GO Directors, National Grassroots, and other ACS CAN and ACS teams appropriate to build grassroots campaign resources.
Create social, volunteer and legislator communications and consult with state and local campaigns, GO Directors, National Grassroots, and other teams as appropriate on what resources are available and best practices in utilizing in campaigns.
Work with external consultants/contacts to secure campaign related resources in consultation with state and local campaign and grassroots team as appropriate.
Work internally and externally to build our capacity including list building and active action takers.
Support work and campaign team, report on progress, identify problems and coordinate urgent and timely implementation.
Support implementation of the campaign plan. Consult the campaign team on all updates to the plan.
Relationship building
Attend local community and/or statewide events to support campaign implementation.
Monitor and analyze tobacco policy and tobacco industry tactics in support of providing relevant analysis, guidance and support to ACS CAN field division and coalition partners.
Working with supervisor, provide strategic issue and campaign best practice guidance and consultation to ACS CAN staff in support of executing the tobacco nation campaigns as appropriate on issue portfolio legislative, regulatory, and initiative campaigns as appropriate.
Work with ACS CAN policy, media, and grassroots staff as appropriate to forward tobacco prevention strategic leadership role.
Provide local research as needed to supplement information to advance state and local tobacco nation campaigns.
Participate in campaign planning using Direct Action Organizing principles as needed.
Work with consultants and internal project/campaign teams as well as legislative/campaign and grant budgets as appropriate for tobacco nation projects.
Work to support ACS CAN’s income development goals.
Apply and follow ACS CAN policies and guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
