This position, which is part of the LNG organization, will support and enable environmental, health and safety (EH&S) activities at the Port Manatee facility. The position will support the safe day to day operations of the manufacturing, production development unit, and office facilities by facilitating near miss and incident investigations, providing necessary training, coordinating safety focused activities, and analyzing trends in safety data to enable management focus on critical risk areas. This position is also responsible for ensuring the facility follows all federal, state, and corporate requirements in the areas of EH&S. The role is also responsible for maintaining documentation for safety qualifications and BSP administration.
This is a highly interactive role for an experienced health and safety professional and not a technician level position. The position requires someone with practical manufacturing experience as well as strong leadership and communications skills. You will be responsible for driving improvement on a broad array of activities specific to Worker Health and Safety and ensure employee/business compliance and adherence to corporate policies and standards.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The position requires interfacing with Port Manatee leadership, Field EH&S, and other safety professionals in Air Products to ensure alignment on processes, highlighting areas of focus for management, and making policy recommendations where appropriate. Effective communications and close interaction with all facility employees – especially production – is also critical. You will also be accountable for assessing, developing, and executing safety improvement strategies in concert with business goals and objectives.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Coach and Support:
Coordination and alignment of all safety programs and work processes for the facility
Develop alignment between manufacturing groups, facilities, and R&D to ensure safety work processes are being maximized
Provide consultation to business organizations such as engineering, administration, and manufacturing on global EH&S Standards and safe work practices.
Monitoring and assessing group Behavioral Safety programs.
Championing work processes which included an ability to compile safety metric information, resulting data analysis, and utilize this information to develop continuous improvement projects.
Champion a culture of safety awareness and accountability
Lead by example, modeling appropriate safety behaviors and recognizing/rewarding them in others
Encourage and emphasize the value of open communication and feedback from all areas
Empower employees to be proactive and take ownership of safety
Prioritize and adapt approach consistent with risk level and business need
Communicate safety performance to senior leadership
Support Management Safety Programs and Implementation
Coordinate management safety review meetings, create discussion materials, track team action items, support follow-up activities
Organize Safety week and other special safety focused activities, coordinate BSP team hands on activities, facilitate management communications
Facilitate Near Miss and First aid investigations, coordinate event management entry and action item tracking
Ensure accurate reporting for BSP, OSHA records, and other compliance reporting
Develops, implements, and trains all employees on procedures and programs to meet the specific safety needs of the Plant.
Oversees administration of worker safety and injury management of the Plant.
Participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of EH&S program developments
Proactively identify and prioritize areas of risk, recommending strategies and resourcing to reduce/rectify gaps
Analyze APTs, behavioral observations, near misses, and other leading safety metrics
Develop ways to streamline data review and allow for data visualization
Participate in central EH&S and manufacturing community safety discussions, disseminate best practices, areas of focus for the Port Manatee team
Proactively monitor high risk activities, new employees and activities to reinforce or refresh safe work practices
Work with leads and supervisors on safe work practices and procedures
Support site Environmental and Emergency programs including:
ARP/RMP
Storm Water Protection Plan
Environmental reporting
Hazardous waste handling & Shipment training
HAZCOM
Lead, Coordinate, or Assist on:
Injury Management / Medical Issues
Interpretation of Global H&S Standards
Performing process data analysis (including trend analysis)
Direct support during unannounced regulatory inspections (e.g., OSHA) and participation is post incident or announced regulatory inspections
Providing direct support to teams on identifying and solving worker health and safety challenges
Driving consistency across all organizations in the implementation of the Global Standard
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of a 2- or 4-year degree program from an accredited college or university in Environmental, Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety Management, Occupational Health and safety or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
Subject matter expertise in understanding U.S. regulatory policies from OSHA, NFPA, NEC, etc.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in facility operations, manufacturing, or safety related roles
Must have experience working in manufacturing setting with a proven safety record
Demonstrated leadership skills
Training and experience in incident investigation (Cause and Effects Analysis)
Comfortable analyzing, interpreting, and communicating data and trends
Familiar with different risk assessments and behavioral based safety practices
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
Good presenter / public speaker, able to deliver a clear message in a variety of settings
Excellent communicator and clear, concise writer
Confident managing conflict and driving change
