Job Description and Qualifications
Air Products, a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an opening for a Procurement Specialist that can be based in Houston / LaPorte, TX. This position is office based, with flexibility to work a couple days from home.
This position is accountable for Operational Procurement, primarily focused on contractor services but also the purchase of materials and equipment across business units within North America. These Procurement activities include the sourcing/buying of contractor services and higher value commodities in support of operating plants, pipeline operation, facilities services, scheduled maintenance turnarounds and unplanned shutdowns.
You must be adept at issuing purchase orders to meet plant operating requirements, able to seek out and select a qualified source of supply when a supplier has not been pre-determined through existing supply agreements, successfully negotiate more favorable pricing and/or commercial terms within time constraints, and execute the competitive bidding, evaluation, and award process. The position requires the ability to influence internal clients and work with external contractors/vendors to drive benefits to the bottom line while not compromising operation, safety, and quality of results.
You must have a degree from an accredited university and 3 years field Procurement experience. The position requires detailed knowledge of the procurement function combined with work process knowledge around requisitioning, buying, receiving and disbursements. The position interfaces regularly with requisitioners, maintenance and turnaround supervisors, planners, and schedulers, contractors/vendors, the material specifying community and other Air Products procurement personnel. The position will also interface with other support functions such as safety, environmental, and disbursements. The position will actively participate in best-practice sharing.
Responsibilities and reoccurring activities include:
– Purchase order execution utilizing the buyer role in SAP
– Conducting bidding events utilizing APCI e tools and processes
– Development and implementation of sub regional agreements
– Support of the use National agreements with the regional requisitioner base
– Ability to flex when needed and support other regional Procurement team
– Order administration, problem resolution, supplier complaint resolution
– Discrepancy resolution for purchase order payments
– Preliminary and ongoing contractor/supplier qualification
– Contractor management as required by procurement operations
– Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment, position manages multiple, competing priorities
– Must enjoy negotiating, which is done on a daily basis both with contractors/vendors and internal APCI clients
– Capturing productivity benefits and uploading the results to a database.
– After hour coverage to respond to occasional plant emergencies
– Occasional travel within the coverage region (overnight stay not normally required)
Qualifications:
– Associates Degree and a minimum of 3 years Procurement experience in or support of an operating facility
-Willingness to become familiar with the technical aspects of services purchased in order to effectively negotiate and execute responsibilities.
– Knowledge of sourcing / procurement work processes
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills
– Existing roles in SAP preferred (not necessarily purchasing roles)
– Competency in using the Microsoft Office suite of products
– Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment
– Must be comfortable with computers and learning new software systems, both are used extensively on a daily basis
– Self-motivated contributor with the ability to work independently through managed objectives
– Must be able to work in a small team environment
