The Finance Manager will provide financial management for Adoptions Together ($4.1 million organization) in the areas of budgeting, monthly close, procurement, and administrative management of agency contracts and grants with public agencies.
The Finance Manager reports to the Chief Business Officer. This position is primarily remote but may require occasional in-office work in the Calverton, MD location of Adoptions Together.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Prepare month-end close procedures, in compliance with GAAP, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, and production of financial statements. Identify discrepancies and work directly with various parties to resolve issues.
Work with Finance Coordinator to ensure accounts payable and receivable are up to date, not in arrears, and properly recorded. Develop, implement, and monitor system for monthly collections.
Prepare all schedules required by annual auditors, and work with Chief Business Officer to provide support during the annual audit.
Assist Chief Business Officer with development and management of agency and departmental budgets. Assist development team and Chief Business Officer in preparation of budgets for grants and other funding requests.
Contract & Grant Responsibilities:
Track all financial and programmatic deliverables for each contract/grant. With input from the program director, assign responsibility for meeting deliverables to individual staff members. With input from assigned individuals and program directors, develop, implement, and maintain a system to ensure timely collection of data needed for deliverables, as well as preparation, review, approval, and timely delivery of all deliverables for each contract/grant.
Serve as the primary point of contact for financial matters at Adoptions Together on all public agency grants and contracts. Monitor accounts receivable from public agencies and proactively pursue prompt collection of past due accounts.
Assist program staff and Research Specialist in identifying what data needs to be collected for each contract/grant. With the assistance of the Operations Director, train staff in data entry procedures and periodically monitor data entry quality.
Develop, implement, and maintain a system for timely execution of contract extensions, modifications, and exercise of option years.
Education & Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years of finance and contracts/grants management required, with at least 3 years of full-cycle accounting/monthly close experience with production of financial statements required.
Non-profit financial management experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of business principles best practices required.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Business or related field required.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Proficient in MS Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
Proficient in the use and maintenance of automated Financial Management Systems (FMS) such as NetSuite.
Self-motivated, organized, and strong critical thinking skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Motivated by service, with a sincere customer service ethic.
Ability to work independently, work collaboratively to discern priorities, and meet deadlines.
